Nope! Rico nailed it!! Those callers just weren’t sure it was gonna happen and wanted to make excuses for Mr. Y before learning they didn’t even need to. Now I’m sure someone will comment on this to argue just to try to prove this theory wrong but I’d still believe that’s all they’re disagreeing for. I refuse to believe anyone smart person actually thought this was a bad idea even before realizing we didn’t even have to give up much.
The only thing I don't understand about this trade is only signing him to a 4 year contract. If Yzerman believes in DeBrincat, which I'm assuming he does or else he wouldn't have traded for him, then why not sign him to an 8×8? If everything works out in the best way possible for the Wings, they MIGHT be contending for the cup in the last year of his contract. Meaning that by the time they are perennial contenders, he will need a new contract. Obviously, this might be incorrect, but in a personal opinion, if DeBrincat is not the 40 goal scorer he was playing on a line with Patrick Kane , I don't think the Wings will be contenders. If he is that 40 goal scorer, he's going to demand way more than he is getting paid in this contract.
