This is just a reply I came up with to someone else but I think it explains my sentiment well… It drives me crazy that people retrospectively say we shouldn’t have been in the draft after hearing that we got the first pick. Using sexual assault for your own argumentative gain is so cringeworthy.

The scandal isn’t even from this past season. Wouldn’t have made sense for them to take away this years draft. Also people only care because we got Bedard. If we got fantilli at 2 no one would say anything
I’ve had to block the other hockey subs cause it’s just to toxic there now. You try to talk about Bedard or the new season and it’s only replies and comments like this.
What happened to Beach and the subsequent cover up is terrible and awful. But everything about it has been settled before last season had started. People still bringing it up and getting mad are just looking for excuses to be mad.
The scandal was bad but the NHL has literally never punished a team by taking picks for an off ice incident. Teams lose picks for anti competitive behavior and cheating, like the Coyotes. Teams get fined for off ice things. The hawks got fined, like every other team that has had criminal behavior happen. People are just hating to hate. But it’s a lot more fun to be hated than it is to be irrelevant, I’ve missed this from the dynasty years. Bring it on.
Devils advocate: we didn’t have a draft pick last year, it was part of the Jones trade. It would have been weird for us to go through all the effort of trading Cat and then the NHL stepping in on draft day and yoinking the pick.
Back to normal self: I don’t agree with taking a pick in exchange for what happened, I think there should have been fines and bans in those involved which there were.
Don’t listen to them at all. All they care about is nuking an entire franchise. Nothing about Beach at all.

I gave up responding. They have their opinion and you won’t persuade these people. Just smile and move on. They want you to engage them
Why bother? Let people whine and complain. The Hawks have Bedard and the future is bright.
