  1. Absolutely atrocious asset management by David Poile. If they didn’t want him on the team, I find it difficult to believe that they couldn’t have at least gotten a draft pick for Tolvanen.

  2. In terms of stats – I like points percentage as a metric to evaluate teams as a whole, because of the "gimme point" system. Usually when I look at the overall standings, I go by points percentage for a few reasons – the main one being that the number of games played isn't equal all of the time for all teams. Points percentage gives an idea where you can "visualize" their success record in that span and use it to see where they should land after 82 games. However, the credibility is slightly undermined due to the fact that you get a point for losing in OT. Not a horrible system, but in terms of comparison, the waters are muddled, certainly because everyone will measure success differently based on those metrics.

  3. Makes more sense to me that all games are 3 pt games. 3 for a reg win, 2 for ot win, 1 for ot loss. Simple, no extra points materializing out of thin air

  4. Being able to push a game into overtime is a bigger deal than winning in OT. In the playoffs being able to drag out games for long periods of time is a true skill you need.

  5. Leafs did play like this before, the last two years, matters not unless you can do it in the playoffs. Maybe this time they will.

  6. It's not surprising tallying 3 points for a regulation win doesn't change much after the fact. I'd like to see it implemented because I believe ot would change those games we see tied with 5 minutes left and you can see they're playing to go to OT. Entice an extra point to finish it in 60 minutes maybe we see less of that

  7. Ok so this is how stars of the week really works

    THE GOLDEN STAR JACK HUGHES
    FIRST STAR C. Lindgren
SECOND STAR BIG TAGE SLAPSHOT THOMPSON
THIRD STAR A maple leaf that doesn’t deserve it It’s nhl rules to embarrass Toronto
    PLATINUM STAR – JACK HUGHES

  8. 16-12 is two games above .500 not 4. Take 2 wins away and give them 2 loses the record is 14-14 = .500 . People make this mistake it all sports.

  9. Ovi. 1304 games. 797 Goals. 643 Assists. 1440 Total Points. +72… Sid. 1136 games. 534 Goals. 913 Assists. 1447 Total Points. +208… The fact that these two are 7 points apart almost 20 years after their draft is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, was Sid cut down a little in his prime? Yeah. Is he two season's worth of games behind Ovi? Yeah, he is that too. Is Sid's trophy case stacked with Stanley Cups, Gold medals, and Conn Smyth trophies? Yeah. But Ovi has almost 800 goals. A cup. A few Rockets, a few Harts. A Conn Smyth… Jesus. There is no losers here. What a great time to be a Hockey fan.

  10. Good to see Charlie Lindgren finding some consistent success. I always find it easier to identify with right catching goalies.

  11. I think the fact that overtime losses count for a point makes it so we should look at the points percentage as being more important than overall win/loss. When your scoring system encourages teams to play in a certain way you can't turn around and say those teams aren't impressive. They're just playing by the rules and finding success doing so. Wins and losses alone don't decide who makes the playoffs, so we shouldn't judge teams based on them in my opinion.

  12. For Seattle Tolvanen is a somewhat safe pick. Seattle primarily use/deploy their 2nd line as the scoring line – every other line is balanced as much as possible. Tolvanen is in nearly every category a better player than Kuhlmann and he won't be tasked with something outside his comfortzone. If there is truly issues with his personality he now joins a strong group in terms of leadership. Tolvanen have to earn a spot as Kraken have enough depth to their squad and this is most likely one of his last chances in the NHL, so he needs to work hard. But in comparison with Sprong he is a better PP player with a better shot and has more upside on defense. The issue is his lacking 5on5 offense.
