Habs Trade Hoffman/Pitlick, Re-acquire Petry, Penguins Acquire Erik Karlsson in HUGE 3 Team Trade
Montreal Canadiens trade Mike Hoffman, Rem Pitlick to Penguins for a 2nd round pick, Nathan Legare, and Casey DeSmith. San Jose Sharks trade Erik Karlsson to Pittsburgh Penguins.
I don't think Kent is done yet. I smell another trade by flipping Petry and maybe a package deal to come yet. I also like the room he's creating for prospects to move up. Great show and looking for the next surprise ! GHG !
This was a smart deal, Legare adds experience at 22 in Laval (7 rookies), they want to build a winner there, he is solid at 6' 205.
I have a feeling Allen has lingering injuries, groin or thereabouts, so DeSmith could be more solid physically and I think will be better on the ice if not in the room.
Jeff Petry will be easy to trade but Detroit would be amazing for the Petry family. Otherwise a 6'3" vet at 4.4 mil for 2 years? We could add a sweetener like Primeau, Myshak, we've got lots of goodies, I wish him well but this is a transitional move. A third in 2025, sure, we could add picks for Petry as well. I love HUGO!!!
I'm going to defend Grier on this trade. The key for the Sharks was not to have to pay a penny of Karlsson's salary which opens up the cap for the young players later on. We also don't know if Karlsson's insane season last year will hold up or if it was a fluke. They at least got a first round pick for someone who is overhyped after a career year. This was a good trade for all three teams in their respective goals.
San Jose had to trade Karlson, a contract like that is a nightmare, so getting it done was a win for them, now they can move on. Pens have taken their swing at the fence, can't blame them, they'll have to rebuild in 3 years big time, but it's a tribute to the commitment they have to the group they signed to end their careers, I respect that they honoured those 3 GREAT players. Montreal was right there pickin' up the bonus points, very smart.
What a magician we have in Hughes. Incredible value in return! I do have a feeling Petry is only here for a cup of coffee however. Something more in the works?
Jeff Petry isn't that bad. I don't get the negative comments he is getting. His wife must of had a change of heart and Petry loved it here. He asked a trade because of the coach that was there at the time if i am not mistaken.
After Jeff Petry was traded last July, the last thing I would have bet on was his reacquisition. However, this is a cup of coffee with Cole Caulfield move. The Kent Hughes written binge-worthy television series called The Montreal Canadiens certainly has its twists and turns, which keeps its audience guessing. I’m loving the entertainment value of the last two off-seasons! The suspense around which young forward gets a chance at Mike Hoffman’s vacancy is also definitely worth the streaming service subscription price. Great job as always on the video Drew.😊Mick
Just need to trade Dvorak, but that likely won't happen until Xmas. And Armia, but they can put him on waivers for assignment to Laval. If someone takes him, great, if not then to Laval you go. Sucks you are paying that much to a player in the AHL, but, it gets the cap off, and opens a spot up for a prospect.
As far as cap space? Currently we are $800000 closer to the cap, then we were before the trade, but that is a pittance.
But this was a masterclass in how to fleece your opponents, by none other than the magician himself, Kent Hughes.
It's like San Jose gave away Karlsson for free, or even paid for it since they are retaining $1.5Mx4. Because wouldn't you get a top10 protected 1st round pick to take on Granlund and Hoffman's contracts? Like it's paying $4.5M + $5Mx2 for two terrible players in their 30s.
Great move. Can't wait to see what will happen with Petry. Hoffman never worked out on a rebuilding Habs team but I do think he can ba a very good depth player on a contending team that's looking for extra punch on the power play. I wish him the best. Sad to see Pitlick go. Like you said, he was a very good waiver pick-up. Not as good as Paul Byron. But a good pick-up. Another good waiver pick-up was…Montembeault! One of Bergevin's last moves!
What you don't understand is all those vets will be traded at the deadline or this offsesaon by San Jose. You guys aren't thinking and should reevaluate why you talk about hockey. They will get picks or prospects for those vets.

Newhook was Scoreless in the last 23 games plus playoffs
He signed with Montreal…that explains MTL not being on the no trade list…HuGo please flip him asap
Hughes is building a young exciting group for many years.
Great show boys! Sorry I missed it! WHAT A DAY

Mike Hoffman, not personal?! Yes, it is! …loll…
possible trade: Petry, Allen, 2nd pick to Toronto for Nylander
Sorry folks. I can't get excited about Ylonen. I hope we have more young prospects.

We got desmith, matheson, petry at 25% retention, second and fourth round pick for Ryan poehling 😅
heinemen is better than ylonen,
How could he put Montréal on his no-trade list when he signed his contract in Montréal?
Seems that many have blinders on regarding Heineman. He could easily play with Suzuki and Caufield.

Trade Petry for a scoring asset…throw in ARMIA….then Move Allan….keep Monty and De Shields as 1 and 2 ..!! Well done Hughes…AMAZING.!!

Casey The Smith
Habs turned Poehling, Hoffman, Pitlick into Matheson, DeSmith, a 2nd, and retained salary on petry. Absolute wizardry
I totally forgot we acquired Lias Andersson as well.
Would you do the following trade?
Montreal Canadiens:
Jeff Petry (50% retained), Jesse Ylönen, Jake Allen, Flames 1st 2025, Avalanche 2nd 2024, & Edmonton 7th 2024
Maple Leafs:
William Nylander, TJ Brodie, & Dennis Hildeby
kind of weird that hoffman and harlson involved in the same trade ???????
Stop saying “Hoffman scores goals” he scored 29 goals in two freakin seasons!!!!!
