Today we analyze another way the New York Islanders could improve offensively this season even if they don’t add a scoring winger. If Kyle Palmieri can stay healthy, he could add 8-10 goals to the lineup on his own and give the team a boost on the power play as well. Unfortunately, staying healthy has not been easy for Palms.
We also break down the third line and who fills in there if Zach Parise does retire. There are many possible candidates including Pierre Engvall, Oliver Wahlstrom, Hudson Fasching and Julien Gauthier. We break down the reasons each player could fit there.
And the Isles once again get little respect from the national media although this time I don’t think they’re off by much.

8-10 more games of palmieri isn't gonna make a difference or boost the pp. If isles want someone to hit 100 posts in 8-10 games palmeiri is the guy. Only way to improve within is for some of the middle sixers to put up career numbers charading as a top liner. Only hope from within is that dufour gets it or maggio surprises at some point. Nothing else to expect from lou's run it back bunch. And parise stay retired. You had a nice career. Parise's fate was sealed when lou resigned pierre.
When Yoda signed Palmieri to $5 mil a year, I blew a gasket. Lou paid that for a guy who is slightly over 1/2 PPG, but will give you just 65 games a year. We had Eberle at $5.5 mil, who played more games per year and was 2/3 PPG. Great move Yoda.
Right now I give Lou a B for his signings. Mayfield is a work horse who gives you effective defense. If Lane can train the horse to stop acting like a jackass at key moments in games, he's worth every penny. Fasching was a great 'find', and Yoda got him cheap. Gauthier is a solid depth player with potential for more. We'll need him when Palmieri and Clutter take their annual LTIR stints. Engvall just might be gold. We'll see. The Sorokin deal is a steal that will age very, very well as the cap goes up. Getting Wally to sign that cheap ass deal was a good read by the old man. I still can't believe he went for it.
Why just a B? It was all keeping house moves, nothing to assure more success next year. Yoda is still banking on the faith squad to step it up.
I think if Oliver Wahlstrom stays healthy and has a solid season that will definitely help.
Wally was also excellent in OT shootouts with a great right hand shot.
It seems The NY Islanders are still only a mid-level team. The bottom line to win a Stanley Cup, NY Islanders just simply need to bring in a couple of more top-elite players.
Also The Metropolitan Division very tough and competitive
The NY Islanders need to get a bit more younger/dynamic/stronger. Hope for best

Good morning Gil and fellow Islander fans. Gil, excellent episode again! An answer to the Parise question, I would love to see him back in an Islander jersey, but if that doesn't happen, I would love to see what Hudson Fasching can do with his position if he's with us for the entire NHL season. Truth be told, I would love to see other Bridgeport talent play in the NHL. Throw them into the fire and evaluate how they handle it, especially if they are quick on the skates. Hi Gil!! Great show my Isles friend! Some of the boys said it best! Need Dufor and or Maggio to shock us! No need for Holmstrom on this team—-if Parise retires, then that opens up Dufor and Maggio! Yes both! Give it a try and see! That’s if both have strong camps! Please don’t tell me if those kids have great camps they will be denied? Yes Gil Durandeau and or Ishikov as well. From those 4—-2 can make the team. We don’t need Holstrom!! He’s a 20 pointer at best and is as soft as Engvall! Is that what we’re becoming? A soft team? Think Engvall and Holmstrom define sandpaper? Can’t have those two softies—-one is bad enough. Palmer? He’s over 30–hasn’t been healthy—plays hard and has broken down. I’d preserve him as much as possible for playoff time—if we get there! To me how can we get scoring from with in? Well give the kids a chance to make it and infuse some hunger! Take care Gil!
