Missing at least the first month of the year, not great!

  2. BeansTheCoach

Wish this was something he got done earlier in the summer 🙃

  3. ne0damige355

Injury gnome / curse starting early this season I see.

    >”As Jake continued to increase the intensity of his preparation for the upcoming season, it was apparent that his ankle injury was not resolving in a way that was satisfactory to he or the Penguins,” said Dubas.
    >
    >”In collaboration with Jake – his representative Ben Hankinson of Octagon Sports, the Penguins medical team led by Dr. Dharmesh Vyas of UPMC Sports Medicine, and Dr. Coetzee – it was decided that surgery would be the best way to ensure Jake would be at his best in 2023-2024.”

Milkshake Factory breathes a sigh of relief!

That’s also about 15% of your goal scoring gone

  6. Dusky_Dawn210

Hey wait a second…that puts him on LTIR……

  7. ZombiePancake45

Takes goals away in his contract year, and maybe some LTIR trickery

  8. UnleashYourMind462

Is this some kinda LTIR move? Is Dubas playing the Tampa Bay game? I like it I like it!

  9. JohnDesire573

Well, I’d rather have him miss the first month instead of time later in the season. I hope he has a speedy recovery!

    Da Beauty league claims one

    edit: spelling

  11. ToxicSunFT

If his recovery goes well he should only be missing 8-9 games which isn’t that bad.

  12. GhostsOfVegasPast

Remember when I said that his style of play leads to serious injuries and shortened careers, and the rest of you downvoted the hell out of me for this obviously true statement?

  13. ilikehockeyandguitar

The injury curse is hitting us before the season has even started.

  14. Guess that leaves Reilly Smith on Crosby’s wing to open.

  15. starlightequilibrium

Huge opportunity for O’Connor – or for Puustinen to potentially make the team out of camp. Would love to see more youth in the lineup.

  16. Better now than during the playoff push! Get well soon!

  17. hammertown87

I get there’s other people in the world but like why did he take so long to get it done?

Doesn’t money talk for health care in the US? Especially a high profile athlete.

  18. BombSquad570

Before everyone gets out the pitchforks about the summer league, I would theorize that it’s just as likely that the summer league was his first opportunity to test the progress of his rehab as it was the cause of the injury itself.

Hoping for a smooth recovery, and not to sound like Mark Madden, but it does seem strange that he was playing and scoring goals in Da Beauty League last week with this “nagging” injury. I wonder if he hurt it doing something there?

  20. PhantomJB93

This seems like the bad news dump you put out right before the Karlsson trade is finalized so everybody talks about that instead

  21. _stoned_chipmunk_

He’s set to miss a lot of time…

  22. evil_iceburgh

If this was going to happen it would’ve been nice for these symptoms to appear a month or two ago. That said I don’t think missing a month of games would be the worst thing for Jake’s body even if it sucks for everything else.

  23. _outlaws_

Still no scoring depth. Maybe we should’ve signed some instead of a load of 4th liners

  24. slightlysatanic

So remember how he was gonna go to Worlds and then pulled out because of injury—this is absolutely the same thing. He was probably using his games in da beauty league as test runs to see how his rehab was going, and it wasn’t doing what they’d hoped.

Let’s not make conspiracy theories about what happened or why or how. This is pretty straightforward and obvious.

  25. Fancy-Reply5732

Dubas should offer sheet Alexis Lafrenière.

  26. RoutineSubstance4816

This is pretty bad news. Honestly the Penguins as they stand are a pretty top heavy team again. They need to have a good start to the season to even have a chance, and being without one of their leading scorers for the first month is…not great.

  27. RiseAbove87

    Tatar is the solution here.

35 even-strength points last year. That’s 2 fewer than Guentzel, while averaging 2 fewer mins per game. He’s also far better defensively.
What’s he gonna cost? 3-4M? That’s great bang for your buck.

I know he sucks in the playoffs but the Pens need to actually make it there first lol.

  28. happyfirefrog22-

Tough break. They cannot re- sign him until they can see if he is recovered and by then he may just want to test free agency. Going to be interesting

  29. Keep him for the playoffs, use the LTIR cap relief to get another top 6
