Let’s talk about the 2021 NHL Calder race, which was, in the minds of most people, led by Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov by a wide margin for a good chunk of the year.

However, a new challenger has emerged, as Dallas Stars rookie Jason Robertson has stormed forward with crazy high production in a very strong role for the Stars.

He’s really giving Dolla Bill Kirill a run for his money.

  1. Honestly I think if you watch their highlights it's not even close. Kaprizov is much better imo.

  2. As an unbiased Stars fan its tough. Both are awesome. Kaprizov is the magic pill the Wild needed to put them over the top amd Robertson is playing amazing hockey with a good 2 way game in the toughest division. At this point i'd give it to Kaprizov but it'll really interesting to see down the stretch

  3. Robertson, Suzuki, Yamamoto…2017 is probably the first NHL draft with couple good players of Asian descent

  4. dude fk nooooo, as a russian, he boosted wilds so hard, i have never imagine myself watching wild games as well, more russian funs and in general more entertainment, 7/24 Kapriz for Calder

  5. The records of both teams when either player gets a point or doesn't isn't even close. The Wild are 24-3-0 when Kirill records a point, the Stars are 10-7-8 when Robertson records one. I do like to see competition in the trophy, since Kap ran away with it in the first half and most the second half, but the difference each player makes to their team, Kaprizov wins that in a landslide. Plus, at the end of his career, someone could probably compile 45 minutes worth of content just from his edge work on his skates. At 5 foot 9, 200lbs, that shouldn't be possible

  6. Not sure how much paint you been huffing but the kid that brings the russian gas is breaking records and goaltenders.
    He is on another level

  7. Classic case of the driver vs the supporting cast IMO. I don’t watch many stars games, but from what I have seen, Robertson is being deemed a support member of the stars by other teams game plans, and he has done a great job punishing that. But watch wild games, Kaprizov steps on the ice, and as soon as he does the other teams top pairing and shutdown line go out to play. And he still scores, even with depth forward victor rask out there to flub prime scoring opportunities. Imagine if Kaprizov had Pavelski to C a line with him.

  8. It will be an easy decision, Kaprisov leads his team by a large margin in points, leads in goal, 2nd in pass. Robertson is 3rd, 2nd and 4th in his team. Great season, just not like Kaprisov.

  9. Guess what, Kaprizov hasbecome the primary target for other players. The same is going to happen with Robertson, Dallas fans just haven't realized it yet. The real question is how does Robertson respond to the same physicality that Kaprizov has recieved. If i were a stars fan I'd be more concerned about making the playoffs

  10. I wouldn't say it's a lock either, but unless Kaprizov gets hurt he's going to win it. There's just a huge difference in quality of competition and teammates compared to Robertson. Opponents are treating Kaprizov as the Wild's bona fide superstar and centering their defensive game plan around stopping him. Offensively, Robertson hasn't needed to carry a boat anchor like Victor Rask to generate offense

  11. As a wild fan, I agree there’s a legit race but I have to say, we have waited 20 years since we had a super star player and that’s what we’re excited about. Most people seem to want a super player for the first time (Gaborik could have been but he was put in a dump and chase system)

  12. Actually I think he did. With the moves and 2 goals last night I don't think you can't say it's lock👍🤣

  13. Kaprizov saw this and responding by scoring two goals. I honestly don’t think people talk enough about the fact that Kaprizov is scoring a lot of goals and making highlight reel level plays every game with Victor Rask as his center… Rask should ether be a 4th liner or healthy scratch.

  14. Kirill beats top defensemen 1 on 1; wins almost every puck battle; superstar playmaker; plays the body, doesn't take sh!t from anybody; incredible hands and moves. Robertson is a goal scorer with a deadly shot.

  15. Statistics… while important are not even why Kap is so good. When have the Wilds offensive ever been noteworthy? Since Gabby? So the fact that the wild actually have an offensive threat. That’s HUGE.

  16. It’s not close. Kaprizov has already clinched the playoffs and this same team missed last year. I’ve watched the wild for years and this guy has completely changed the team

  17. Two completely different players. Kaprizov has the flash and Robertson is super solid. Just think in the end it will be close but Kaprizov is a game breaker and changer. Robertson would have to do something really special to over take.

  18. What are you smoking
From trading 10 players for eickel
Or saying Kaprisov is not ROOKIE of the Year I really want what your smoking
So I can be in dream land too
    Denny from Minnesota

  19. There is literally no comparison. Kaprizov is heads and shoulders more impressive than Robertson.

  20. lol you kidding me ? This is all fake outrage gimme a break, it's Kaprizov hands down. People just want there to be some competition in the Calder race so they make it up. You should know better Lego but I guess you want them clicks I get it.

  21. you are being lazy and just looking at points number imho. Which basically favors wingers.

Josh Norris (a Center) plays against first line players in the league. Good Faceoff Percentage as well as scoring goals and assists. All around player.

You also have Ilya Sorokin (Goalie).

    Lazy analysis
