  1. I was at the game tonight. A couple observations… No single player on the Lightning stood out as wanting to control the puck, or wanting to create something out of nothing. Every player moved and reacted at the same even tempo. The Islanders had a very balanced attack with a variety of shots coming across all four lines, along with their D-men not afraid to take shots at will. Maybe that's why the imbalance in SOG that favored the Lightning didn't work to their favor…the Islanders shots were the result of quality opportunities and locations on the ice. The Islanders D-men once again did an excellent job (for most of the game) forcing the Lightning to move the puck around the perimeter of the zone and leaving Tampa Bay no choice but to take shots from distance. This was easy for Greiss to play. I wasn't expecting this type of game from the Lightning. Before arriving at the rink I thought it was going to be a 3-3 game, with a shoot-out deciding the winner. Kucherov and Stamkos looked flat. Point is FAST. Gourde looked better than how he left off last season. TBL defense looked ok. Overall the team looked flat. Although I'm a lifelong Islander fan, I am a big hockey fan. I try to appreciate the play of all players and teams objectively. Jon Cooper was kind of scary to listen to in the post-game because he stated he thought his team played well and he didn't see any major faults. Maybe he forgot his team has some crazy superstars on it?…and that Islanders had 8 scratches from their roster compared to 2 or 3 for TBL. Cooper stated he felt the puck just bounced in the Islanders favor, and that his team had some bad luck with opportunities that were similar to the Islanders. If I were a TBL fan that sort of analysis from a coach would scare the heck out of me. How did he not see the lack of fire in his players? His team has a week off now and needs to be fired up when they play BUF next. That won't be an easy game either after a momentum break. NYI deserve more respect for achieving their 8th win in a row, and hopefully will get it from the media over the coming days. I wish TBL good luck with the remainder of their season and hope they can turn things around after their break.
