  1. The number faux pas is so annoying. I used to see value in revering those numbers, but now i just see it as stupid. Grektzys number is supposedly retired league wide? Come on, it's just a number.

  2. the number crap is soooooo stupid The NHL currently has 179 retired numbers let there be a next 66 and 99

  3. Toronto never gave him a chance. He put up the numbers to be called up and they never did. Blame is on them. They desperately need a forward too. Dumb

  4. Ho-Sang would of been a huge dud in the NHL, A player who can't play a team game, selfish player, topping off lazy and undisciplined there was noway he would last a season in the league.

  5. Being an Asian hockey fan, I wanted to see him play well. The ongoing debate about his attitude has always been a big issue in his game & I do feel that his opportunities were given to him. But a combination of poor attitude and not taking his opportunities seriously may have prevented him from playing longer in the NHL 😢

  6. Did Ho-Sang get a “fair shot” at the NHL?

    No. He absolutely did not.

But the NHL is full of players who didn’t get a fair shot at the NHL—some who had it harder because of some bias against them (whether it was skin colour, size, style or play, personality, or some other aspect of their individual identity) and others who were given the NHL on a silver platter. It’s the top league in the sport; damn near every player is an outlier in one aspect or another.

It would not surprise me whatsoever if, one day in the future, we find out something that makes sense of all of this; it would equally not surprise me if we never do.

But every time I hear some hockey insider say that a player is “enigmatic”, alarm bells go off in my head. That’s never about talent, never about coachability, never about effort. “Enigmatic” is about personality, not performance. It’s about the how, not the what.

There is absolutely something else in the Ho-Sang story that we don’t know about yet. I have no idea what it is, but I know that it exists.
