  1. I still think hextall was sent here to even things up for the flyers. He destroyed that organization and my word did he do a bad job here. Rutherford didn't really leave anyone with a good canvas to work on but holy crap

  2. Granlund and Petry for Karlsson…take it or leave it? lol Maybe it's just me, or maybe that's just how Serbians conduct business, but I'd be laughing too hard to even hang up if I was Grier listening to that nonsense. "What's that Kyle…hahahaha…and you want us to… eat salary too? Oh man, I'm crying…my chest hurts…hahahahaaaaa! Good one Kyle!" I can safely say as much as Hextall is despised, he's still be considered a much better GM than DK if he ever was one, as he actually made trades, whereas nothing would ever get done under Dejan with the "Take our half-chewed cold sirloin and give us your warm NY strip" strategy. Just becuase Washington was able to fleece Patrick for Jagr, doesn't mean the rest of the post-salary cap NHL operates that way.

I could even get behind this insane trade scenario if there were no other options for SJ than the Penguins, but there are. Heck, Toronto could offer Nylander and a couple picks and get it done with SJ retaining whatever needed to make it a basically a one for one deal, and they'd jump all over that looooong before they'd consider taking the two-headed Gran-try offering.

Two facts here: The Penguins aren't the only players at the table, and Granlund isn't going to SJ. The Penguins who are now $3+ million over the cap will buy him out to get compliant. If they still have an offer in to SJ at that point and it does include Petry, it would take a lot of extras to get SJ to consider taking his overvalued contract even if the Penguins are the only option left for them. Pretty sure Grier likes his job, and isn't going to make a completely bad, one-sided trade just becuase Karlsson wants out and the Penguins are interested.

And what's being lost in all of this is Karlsson has final say. If he'd rather play for any of the other teams like Toronto or Carolina (which I couldn't understand why he wouldn't), then it really doesn't matter what the Penguins are offering. He has the final yes/no vote on any trade/movement.

  3. I feel bad that hes getting talked about like this. It seems like guys that are far worse characters get talked less badly about or get defended more. I mean yeah this is definitely on Hextall as far as fit but reel it back a bit with the acting like hes a piece of bird crap that fell on the toast youre eating.

  4. I could see the Sharks maybe taking Granlund in a Karlsson trade, since their current depth chart is really lacking at RW but Petry supposedly doesn't want to go to San Jose, so that's why a 3rd team like Chicago may get involved to take Petry and his cap hit. I can see it going like this:

Pittsburgh: Get's Karlsson; 30% retained salary
SJ: Get's POJ or Ty Smith, Granlund, Pittsburgh 2nd rd pick
Third team: Get's Petry, Pittsburgh 1st rd pick

The Pens would clear over $12 million with these trades and get Karlsson at $8 million per year. Maybe that's too unrealistic that SJ would take Granlund at full salary and retain 30% on Karlsson, but I'm banking on them blinking first for the reasons you said DK. SJ no leverage and the Pens need to exploit that to the max.
