Okay, here's what I see. [ tl;dr — there's a LOT to like here. ]
Plays bigger than his size. Takes away the bottom of the net well. Quick hands.
Squares to the puck nicely. Tracks well, follows the puck well.
Positioning and stance are textbook, no problems there at all.
Decent rebound control, could use some work there — but he visually follows where the rebounds are going when they do get away from him.
Very solid in the shootout, his one-on-one is very strong.
The one fault I will find with his play is that he challenges too far from his crease with players deep in the zone. He needs to be more cautious when there are attackers other than the puck carrier near his crease, and keep his feet in the paint.
I'm going to be paying attention to what the kid does in Rockford; he has lots of potential. A few years of seasoning in the North American pro game and schedule, and we could be seeing him in a Blackhawks jersey full time in a few years.
I am generally pessimistic about goaltenders — not this kid. He looks good. I'm very encouraged.
Here after he got his first nhl win #stud
Blackhawks found a gem… yet again
