Canucks news: Nate Schmidt gives the Canucks a powerful 1-2 punch on the blue line

Nate Schmidt gives the Canucks a bona fide number 2 defenceman (with Quinn Hughes), regardless of whether or not they actually play together.

It looks like Schmidt will start the season with Alex Edler whereas Hughes will start with Travis Hamonic.

I still can’t believe that we got Schmidt for the lowly price of a 2022 3rd round draft pick. What a steal.

  1. I knew this guy was good Clay, but is actually better than I thought. High tempo high energy game and perhaps better communication to. He is loud. I am jacked for the season to start. I think as a Canuck fan we have a contender. A few weeks a go I was a bit leery . Now it's go time.

  2. The changes in personnel on the Canucks has made this team a lot better. I am far more confident the team will do better. Nate has been good for the team all round. I am jacked for the season to start.

  3. Super excited to see his game on the ice with the canucks but probably equally excited for his game off the ice and his personality is just awesome!

  4. I prefer to see Hughes and Schmidt play separate. Why put both of your offensive d men together all the time?

  5. this will be the most exciting part of the season. both pairings will spend at least 80-90 percent in the Ozone on different pairings. but if the team is down by a goal or pushing for an insurance marker, i think green will load up the two best skaters on the team to go in for the kill. watching his mic'd up video was sooo hilarious. the NEW KB3. he will be a fan favourite for suree

  6. Hated Schmidt when he played against the Canucks in the playoffs not so long ago, and now we are going to be cheering for him. Strange how things work out sometimes. Haven`t been this excited about the defense since 2011. Hope to see Juolevi in there this year…there`s a trend of young D-men playing some good hockey…Juolevi can earn a spot on that wave hopefully. Thanks Clay.
