Timo Meier SIGNS a massive 8 Year Deal to remain With the NJ Devils. The Devils now have a very strong top 6 core consisting of Meier, Nico Hischier, Dawson Mercer, Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt, and newly acquired winger Tyler Toffoli. Meier signed an 8 yr 70.4 Million Dollar contract which breaks down to an 8.8 Million dollar cap hit. Fitzgerald tried his best to get it under 9 and succeeded, but do you think it is still high or a fair contract going for the Devils? Will it effect us keeping Mercer, Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec for the future, only time will tell but Meier is staying in NJ and the Devils locked in this power forward to help the Devils changes of being a Stanley Cup Contender as early as next season

Great deal for NJ. Even with the cap going up, this contract along with Bratter is tremendously team friendly.
Kudos to Tom Fitz and owners Harris/Blitzer for recognizing the time is now and allowing the organization to go all in to win the big one.
What a week for our team! Wow. We are a very deep team. I am sp glad we didn’t waste money on feee agents over the last few years! Thank god we didn’t trade for tarasenko and give up our future. We passed ok the shartenkirk, Panarin, Johnny hockey and others who are WAY overpay. This was a once in a lifetime kind of player and Meier coming here. There is more to come. Our goaltending better. It’s good all around. Where do you see Alexander Holtz fitting in? 4th line to start?
The price of this contract is the price you pay if you want to win. Toronto blew a lot of money on big names and they are screwed with their salary situation. Same with the rangers and Panarin. Fitz created a culture here thru the draft and now young guys want to come here to win. I believe in Akira Schmid. I hope Marty and our goalie coach teach Akira everything this off-season. Keep the goaltending the way it is. No need to panic and spend a ton on Hellybuck, unless he will take way less to come here and win. Then it’s a no brainer and you make that happen. But right now our goaltenders salaries are so low and if we can win it all with them this year, wow, that will be amazing. Let Vanicek and Schmid battle it out. I want to see Tyler Brennan in net. He’s a few years away. It’s way early to tell, but I like what I see
I think Mercer will prove out to be one of the top 4 wingers, and toffoli more of a middle 4 winger. Either way, good problems to have. Enjoy the great news!
It's all comparible to what other players were paid. PLD got a similar contract with the Kings and I think Timo is a better player. I wish it were less but this is not a video game. Its business. Hopefully the contract ages like fine wine 🍷 and not vinegar.
I'm just glad it was under 9 aav. It's hard to get 40 goal scorers of his type of game play under that figure – end of the contract …eh, we'll see. I'm stoked for the next 5 years, though! LGD 😈😎

We are entering uncharted waters now with a team this freaking good and a core group under long term contract. I definately did not see this working out but it did. There are a few goalies out there that are going to get a ballistic demonstration of firepower they weren't ready for. lol

I was hoping that it would have been less money. But, it was still under $9 million per year (average). Overall, it's a great deal & I'm happy that Meier will be a Devil for a long time!

I like the contract, price we need to pay for goals and his overall value as a player… toffoli adds physicality, cup/games/playoff experience, and weight from my growing knowledge of him… got some picks that can fight to keep the system strong and competitive, things are looking up for us,honestly.
