I’m glad Demko wants to stay in Vancouver. I know he hasn’t been good this season but he had two good seasons before this and the Canucks don’t really have another goalie that could be a starter nor are good starting goalies easy to find so I say give him one more season and see how he does. Besides it’s not like the Canucks are going to be good anytime soon anyway.
Hope a self-sustaining economic model can be found for quality independent journalism.

Media was always about the ads. You think those columns of obits were free? A weekly sports magazine is as relevant as Life. Your stuff is better than SI ever was anyway

On the media, what has occurred is no one buys anything in print ( and this has been the case for years) and content has now moved online and into streaming ( podcasts). But these media are not generating the revenues expected. So now those who survived the purges when print went away are not feeling the pain as the companies move to cut costs as the companies are not bringing in the monies they expected.
SI is owned by a capital firm. Capital firms don't run companies because they know the business, they run them for the bottom line only, and often end up mismanaging them into the ditch (Hostess, Toys R Us) because they don't have any kind of vision whatsoever. Sports journalism is not dead, just fragmented – YouTube being just one example – and companies like The Ringer and The Athletic have been doing quite well with their original founders at the helm (even if both are now technically owned by larger – non-capital – firms).
I felt bad for Ovi, losing his father. Best wishes for him and his family, it's a shame, he won't be around to see his son, break Gretzky's scoring record, when he does. 🙏🙏🙏
