At 2:59 the video confirms the Canucks passed on an offer from the Sabres to drop down two spots because they were afraid Willander would be taken by then. Given the Sabres’ drafting profile, they were likely trying to trade up to select Zach Benson (if you go back and watch the reply of the selection the Sabres’ GM practically ran up on stage to announce the selection and he had a big, goofy grin on his face like he couldn’t believe his luck), but were able to get their guy anyway.
