If Backstrom is underrated for being under Ovechkin's shadow, does that make Malkin and Jagr underrated too? I'm sorry, I cannot consider someone who scored close to a PPP throughout his career to be "underrated".

Why is it that the NOrris, and most underrated D skater goes to the guys who score? Is that the benchmark? Can you be shut-down on D? Can you always be in the right position to DEFEND? May you be the best at delivering forechecks without penalty? Can you be a great passer, up the ice? No. The best defenseman is the one who scores more points than the other Dmen? Yes.
Defense is an art. It is not about scoring.

I don’t really have a preference on this. I will say Darcy Kuemper said that Cale Makar was underrated. When the interviewers challenged him by saying “He won the Norris and the Calder” Darcy responded by saying “He’s still underrated” 😎
