[Landstöm] Backlund about Sutter: “When you win, that leadership style works, but when you lose, you don’t sync as well..there will be a lot of negative leadership” And: “there was a negative atmosphere in the team, and that it became difficult to get the team together”

Really excited to see what they can do this year without that toxic Sutter cloud over them

This lines up with what I expected.

    That blows man.

You can really see how Sutter corroded the on-ice product to the point where even the fans were just baffled by what we saw.

Just even looking at Markstrom’s bad year from the new lense of Sutter’s people management skills…it just takes on a bit of a new light (although Marky’s gotta tighten things up a lot next year anyways)

I’m not buying this shit again, you don’t run through 5 coaches in 7 years without some issues with player leadership. I’ve heard this narrative of “it’s all the coaches fault” like every other year since Feaster was fired.

I understand Sutter had to go, but there is something else rotten in that Locker room and there has been for some time.

Really would love to be a fly on the wall to see what actually went on. The vast majority of the team stayed the same from the 21/22 to the 22/23 season. They all knew sutter. And at the beginning of the year we were 5-1 and then suddenly everything went to shit and it started with really random and frankly really early line juggling. Was there a riff between players that sutter got over involved with? Was there an incident with abuse from sutter like the speculation of an internal investigation that derailed everything? I don’t think we’ll ever know.

All I know for sure is that sutter is a legendary coach and the legitimate talent brought in had a very hard time adjusting.

I really hope the front office changes really make a difference or this team is in a world of hurt for a while now

Yah reminds me of a work policy that was instated, you can’t choose who you work with. Some employees were atrocious … Noone wanted to work with them on the shift cause they wouldn’t pull their weight or even the basics of the job… So people were calling in sick..switching shifts so they didn’t have to work with certain people… management was like no ..you have to .. we only have a certain amount of lines..alot of people quit over 3 months.
