  1. This Red Wings Team Is Gonna Be FASCINATING In The Future… What Are YOUR Thoughts On This Detroit Core? What Moves Do YOU Think They Should Still Make? And Do YOU Think This Team Could Win a STANLEY CUP? I'd LOVE to Hear YOUR Thoughts! #GravGang #RoadTo75kSUBS

  2. Great video. Excellent assessment of the Wings. They’ll be fighting it out with MTL for last place in the Atlantic this year.

  3. Answer: No. You give 8 million per year for 4 years to a 3rd best forward on a potential champion.

  4. They're going to be good, but yeah you make a lot of good points. More bad contracts than I thought.

  5. Even after these couple 'bad contracts' they still have cap space. Weaker contracts can be moved as the young defensive prospects come online. Debrincat's timing here is perfect, it should align well with the young guys coming up and with the cap space increasing. I have total faith that Yzerman can, and is, turning this around. Sometimes you have to overpay at times to keep competitive value. Having said that, I'm not blind and this team has a ways to go. They could make a playoff spot but I think it is a longshot for this coming season. Though it has been 7 years out of a playoff spot, the rebuild didn't truly start until Yzerman got here 4 years ago.

  6. I agree that the top two lines could be better. That being said, Detroit has some of the best depth in the entire NHL. I wouldn't sleep on some of the prospects like Kasper, Mazur, Lombardi, Danielson, ASP, Edvinsson, etc from developing into top line players. While Detroit could be a playoff team now, I honestly still think Yzerman knows there are 3-4 more years until Detroit is pushing for a cup. Look how he's signing these contracts and how many are not long-term or overlapping. Debrincat is all about a winning culture, while helping these young guys continue to develop and learn from other good players.

  7. Raymond is only 21. If he takes a significant step, which is very possible, that top line gets a whole lot more interesting.

  8. STOP IT. It's going well. I feel – playoffs. Cup? Contender? Stop it. Not yet. Takes time. Need 1-2 kids to become stars, and a real goaltender be it Cossa or someone else. Then – yes, contender.

  9. Not really stepping out on a limb here, but I think the fight for the 8th spot in the East is going to be insanity.

  10. A large factor that a lot of people miss about "The Yzerplan" is exactly what his goal is. He's taking a slower and methodical approach. He doesn't want a flash-in-the-pan kind of story, a few years of playoffs with maybe one where they go a little ways before sinking back to the bottom of the standings. He wants to build a dynasty, straight up. He wants to be able to retire eventually, and watch the moves he made continue to be fruitful for a long time after.

We're not gonna compete this year. We might, maybe, possibly squeak in with barely enough points to take a wild card spot. Maybe. But we're not competing for the cup now, nor do I think we'll really push for it in five years.

"Slow and steady wins the race", and with that pace, perhaps we'll win more than a few of those races.

  11. The thing is though…the “meh” contracts aren’t going to hold them back because they’ve managed the cap so well. They also have the ability to combine players and prospects in trades, and they have flexibility in that a lot of their centers can flex out to the wings. I think that if / when they win a cup…Larkin is the 2C and not the 1C. So…they need that true #1 center that bumps Larkin to the second line.

  12. The thing about their drafts up to this point was about filling the organization. They have pretty much every style player at various positions and do finally have depth at each position in the prospect pool. They have gone high floor to make sure the core and foundation are set.

Now I think we see the draft philosophy change next season. I think they go high floor with their 1st round pick, I think they go high floor more often than not and only take a defenceman if they can't pass him up. I think it's going to be heavy on wingers. Mazur, Lombardi, soderblom, buchelnikov, and Noah dower-nilsson are wild card in terms of potential. They all have skill, it's just translating it. Lest we forget that Kucherov was drafted by Yzerman in the 2nd round in 2011 so its not like there isn't elite talent to be had in the 2nd round. Buchelnikov is also a shooting right handed Russian he took in the 2nd round. Wait and see isn't easy to hear but that's where we are with the prospects and going long term in free agency on d wasn't really necessary because their long term d group is set from the draft. Just have to work edvinsson, wallinder, ASP, Johansson, Buium, Cleveland, and Gibson in the lineup or out in a trade for legitimate talent

  13. Great analysis. I think for the most part, Steve has done the best he could with the unfortunate draft lottery luck we’ve gotten since he’s been GM. This team and the way our division is is not a playoff contender. That being said, he has filled the team with high floor players that can become trade pieces come the trade deadline. With his draft picks, he has again gotten high floor players, so we don’t end up with busts like Zadina , for example. And as the recent Stanley Cup proved, having teams filled with superstars doesn’t mean you’re going to win a cup. Has he made mistakes? Yes, of course. Yes, human like you said. But I think he’s being very strategic and methodical in his approach to building the team.

  14. I think detroit is built on defence like a solid team… yes Chiarot and Holl i don't love but once Edvinsson / Wallinder / Seider / S.Pelikka will be on the team that defence will be amazing and very hard to play against.

X2 amazing goalie prospect, i think detroit will have one of them hit, atleast thats my hope.

Center will be Larkin / Kasper / Danielsson, they all look good and will be hard to matchup against at center.

The only thing missing is impact wingers… Raymond and DeBrincat are good enough… but they are missing maybe one top talent.

I think Mazur and Berggren will be interesting to follow… maybe one of them can become a solide 25 Goals winger.

To me this rebuild is looking pretty good if you project the team 3 years from now.

  15. Still think taking Cossa instead of Wallstedt will come back to be one of the Yzerplans only misses. Not that I think Cossa will bust. Just think Wallstedt will be better for a few reasons

  16. I love your videos and your commentary. But, you are a touch too narrowly focused on this team right now. You must zoom out a bit and see the bigger picture. Yzerman is doing 2 different things right now. First, he is improving the Red Wings team a bit with middle of the road talent to give the fans a better team to watch. Second is the important part. Secondly his farm team was horrible. He let the coaching staff go and replaced the head coach with the successful ECHL coach, thus beginning a mini rebuild of the Grand Rapids Griffins. He intentionally stocked the big team with NHL caliber players so the prospects can't move up unless they are fantastic. This will give the prospects time to mature in system while playing for a good coach and hopefully learning winning ways. In a couple years the prospects should be fully ready to move up to the big league much more easily and successfully. It's a pretty wise move. Keep the fans happy with a better Red Wing team and provide a better learning team for the prospects to mature on. I'm not a die hard "Yzerplan" type in any way. But I can see the logic in this approach.

  17. Playoffs yes. But who is the superstar? You need at least two. Your favorite team the Blackhawks will win the cup before the Red wings. And guess what. Your favorite player Patrick Kane will join Dallas.

  18. As a biased Detroit fan I think we’ve done the best we could through FA (besides a couple signings) without jeopardizing the future like Holland did. Since 09 I think three teams won that didn’t draft a 1st overall pick. So ya Stevie’s gotta hit on some gems. Love the videos

  19. I feel like this video didn’t need to be made and is way too early. Yzerman has a rolling cap, he signed 10 guys more than any other team this off-season and still has 8.5 million in cap space and u wanna say he hasn’t made good moves…the prospects coming up will be on entry lvl if they even make the team and with players like copp and compher, u pay for their all around game not just their points. Even if they don’t bounce back and have 20 goal seasons, the projected roster u showed still had fabri and spring who are 20 goal scorers in their own right on the 3rd line…Detroit isn’t anywhere near done building this team and they’re already looking pretty solid. How bout wait a few years then evaluate the team 😂 give yzerman some credit he’s done a pretty good job trying to clean up the absolute mess Holland left him.

  20. This core is soon to blossom. Very similar to how it took New Jersey to click, and while I think Buffalo is a better team, they might be competitive to battle for a wildcard slot.
I agree, unless an outlier pops up in camp or someone catches fire in the forward corps, no one is really lighting the lamp. Goaltending will have to bail them out for now
