Doing a buyout means next year you have $4.6Million plus on the books wasting away. So no raises next year. If I was wasting away I would prefer it to be in Margaritaville. Not on the Maple Leaf cap.

A buyout doesn't get rid of the whole contract, its not happening, he's getting traded.
I really can't see the Leafs buying out Matt Murray, and I can give you 2 reasons why. Those two reasons are #34 and #88. A Matt Murray buyout will cost the Leafs $2 Million off the cap next season – when they'll need every single penny to resign those two reasons. UNLESS – the Leafs take a huge gamble a use the buy out penalty as an excuse to try and talk the contracts down by that amount. That would be very risky though. Best to ride it out until the first time he gets injured, then send him to Lupulville.
If the Leafs buyout Murray it negates 2/3 of the projected salary cap increase for 2024-25. Cap stays flat for the Leafs for another year! Have to play/LTIR or trade.
