HE was the HERO they Needed

Arturs Silovs is an UNLIKELY HERO, but was the HERO Latvia needed as he put this team on his back and was a main factor in Latvia winning the Bronze medal. Arturs was born in Ventspils, a small city located in Latvia, he was drafted in the 6th round 156th overall by the Vancouver Canucks back in 2019. If I was a Canucks fan I would be insanely happy right now considering the performance he has just given us.

  1. he heee… yeee!! Boiiii did that! I still can't believe that happened. Cried myself to sleep that night. 🤣🤣 Watching hockey since 1996. 💪

  2. I actually got to go to the freedom monument & celebrate with the other 30k(!!!) people who showed up! The energy was amazing, despite how crazy crowded it was — i even got to see the trophy from the back for a split second! Now, we've got to go for gold, and make next year's celebration twice as big as monday!

  3. Had a chance (as a finn) to see that game on site and whole crowd in Nokia Arena, Tampere, Finland was to Latvia. Best was soooo loud latvian fans who took the arena on their hands; beautiful story !!! Congrats to Latvia !!!!

  4. not sure if you know, but the aircraft which was carrying our hockey team back home, before landing at RIX, made a low circle above The Freedom Monument and the aircraft itself had a livery of the Latvian flag.
anyway, this year's bronze made our people so united that various society integrity programs (worth multiple millons) run by "whatever" ministry is nothing compared to what one hockey team has achieved.
it's a pity that this hockey celebration has ended and won't be seen again in Riga in the nearest years. Nevertheless, the preparations for next year's championship in Ostrava and Prague have been started and we will be sure to make our boys to feel like they are playing at our home arena. ❤

  5. He is the next Arturs Irbe (Artūrs Irbe), a.k.a. The Wall.
Just to refresh history, he played in San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, as well in Vancouver Canucks, and Carolina Hurricanes at NHL. Our news already made the comparison with the legend, because they both have first name the same, both are goalies/goaltenders.
Arturs Irbe currently is the goaltender coach, he coached at NHL and coached in this championship our goaltenders.

  6. In this tournament Silovs was nicknamed "Mūris" (Brick wall) because of how impenetrable he was. There was even a shot during one of the last games where a fan is holding a sign with the word Silovs and a painting of a brick wall next to it. He was truly the best player this tournament saw.

  7. 1:30 I like how for Latvia, Ventspils is actually not that small 😀 but yeah internationally it is tiny, but so are all the other cities in Latvia, except the capital city.

  8. I was there too, small drop in the sea of supporters welcoming and celebrating our hockey heroes that achieved bronze victory!

  9. I was stunned when I heard he deflected 40 of 41 attempted goals by Sweden, and 280 total over the championship, with the next one being at 209. No wonder he's being called the brick wall!

  10. As someone who attended the celebration at The Monument of Freedom i must say the energy was insane, like haven't seen anything like it

  11. Idk if anyone knows this, but there is a whole fanchat for Arturs Silovs. AND when was the holiday it was amazing i loved it<3.

  12. it shows how good he is he was the literal best player in the world that means he was the best hockey player this year

  13. non-hockey country ? Hockey is by far the biggest and most popular sport in Latvia….
