The only thing that makes this tolerable is, if things go sideways, the entirety of Reaves aav can be buried on the Marlies except for 100K. It is a black hole offensively & I don't know how at 36 he can get around the ice effectively enough to get in on the forecheck. I think it's a waste of 1.35M aav personally. The Rangers had Reaves & realized he's was not improving their club & traded him for a 5th. Treliving does have a preference for big tough guys, but surely you could get one much younger, who can actually play a bit. Unimpressed with this move.
i AGREE this contract is absolutely AWEFUL. if this is the sign of whats to come … The leafs made the wrong decision going ahead with Treliving.. Ryan Reeves is NOT over a million player…. and THREE YEARS??? til hes 40? really??? a 1 year 1M would have been fine… this is rediculous. Im so disapointed so far… Treliving is going to kill this team fast with this type of contracts. that 350k overage will be HUGE in the grand scheme of things. If you have to overpay players to come here those arnt the types of players you want. You want guys who WANT to come here. Take a little less money to help the team win. Matthews and Nylander are going to look at this like , Im going to give up money so Treliving can just go out and overpay on a bunch of players? For these people thinking Matthews is going to give Toronto a 'Hometown discount" and take an 8 year contract. this is the exact reason why he wont. Overpaying these other players wasting the money hes giving back to the team. Matthews Contract will be 4-5 years at 13.5M per plus. Theres no way around that. Nylander will have to be similar , in a way to an overpay and just a few seasons. 4 year 9.5M .

wow…just the most unenthused wow ever. As much as the Leafs need scoring, trade nylander who in nothing more then a weak give-away lazy player. At this point, the 2023-2024 season looks bleak.

matthews and nylander are already signed for next season and next offseason cap is jumping 4m and the following year another 4m…. leafs offered ROR same contract and chose elsewhere. it's been widely known throughout the year ROR did not like keefe and thought tavares was a horrible captain

You can bury him in the minors if it doesn't work out. People are being a bit overdramatic with these two signings I feel. The stars have the best bodyguard in the NHL now and should allow them to play more loose. Im glad Reeves is a Leaf this team needs muscle big times

Nice signing, but they need some of that up front. The 4 don't score in the playoffs because they can't create any space for themselves. They need to grab Bertuzzi. Also don't like that they let Acciari walk, and to Pittsburgh of all places

The writing is on the wall bro. Toronto is toxic right now Lets put you in the situation. You a a low tier or medium tier player. Your paymaster wants to nickel and dime you, in this case a couple 100,000 dollars. Meanwhile the core will negotiate for millions on their salary contract and get it without a fight. You should pick up your gear and hightale it to another place where they appreciate your value and pay you more. I warned you many years ago. That locker room is toxic. Mainly because of the pay differential.

the money side is a no factor 1.3 is so easy to bury. Reaves isn’t here to fight every night he’s a hype man, The leafs are genuinely the saddest and softest team i’ve ever watched reaves adds 10x the personality in just one guy. He’s the type of guy to tell the stars to grow tf up and hit or stop being pussys. We needed that energy badly and reaves is a great player for that maybe the only. Corey Perry got 4M because he provides league insight to Bedard. Which Strip clubs got the best chicks in which city, which bars give you food poisoning, coke number in each city etc. Thats what the 4 is for.
