I like the trade! Toronto needs someone with cup experience! Someone who is going to put up with no failure! Someone who is going to give Mathews and Mariner more advice and help!
Yes they added cup ring experience , 2way play making skills and 80 grit sand paper and pk strength. But……they still need 2 real defenseman. Not guys who line up on the blue line and dissappear when the puck and play is in and around their net. If they can get back to the 3 d pairs they had in 90s whom played good tough positional d. Had 2 to 3 guys if the 6 whom could make plays as well. If they do not shore up the d core this is just spinning their expensive wheels , wasting drafts and end up going nowhere just like the old leafs.

If we shore up the defence (or it plays up to its talent) and the goaltending holds up, I think the Leafs can take the lightning.
