  1. Not that weird, Former and current Red Wings players have and still play in lots of beer leagues and roller hockey leagues in Metro Detroit, I played against Adam Erne last spring at Fraser Hockeyland in the roller league.

  2. This is nothing new to me. Let NHL guys do whatever they want to enjoy themselves in the offseason.

Zuc used to play with a friend in the Hackensack, NJ beer league when he was on the Rags. I think it was Division 4 in that rink… WAAAAAAAY below his talent level. But if he got in a good skating workout and didnt run up the score too much (hint: he didnt), let him do what he wants as long as he is having fun. And also from what Ive heard, anyone that recognized him, he would absolutely take pics with them after the game. That guy is a total class act and great human being.

Im pretty sure Joey Mullen also used to play there as well in the offseason… and like Zuc… was completely cool to be around.

Then you have guys like Bruce Driver. As a Devils fan, I was always a fan of his… until I met him. He is a complete POS. Now fast forward to when I got the chance to play against him in the Wayne, NJ beer league. He was playing goal for his team because he "didnt want to make it unfair"… and from the get go he was immediately screaming at every single one of his teammates in warmups about how they have to get ready and to do the best they can to win… in a damn beer league! Thirty seconds into the game, he lost his shit about an offsides call that his team committed!! It was hilarious! And sad…

So after that, for the whole game, me and my collegiate teammate, who was on the team with me, did nothing but take risers at Bruce Drivers big ass melon head. We already knew that we were going to win the game (we did 8-2), but we both hated Driver so much that we wanted to shut him up. Just because you played with Brodeur, doesnt make you Brodeur when you jump into the net. There was one point in the 2nd period where I was coming down the left side on a 2-1, Driver obviously plays me as the shooter, and I just wrist it as hard as I can at his head… and I missed by about an inch or two. He knew what I was trying to do… and as the puck hit the back glass and went around, I skated behind the net and Driver followed me with a glare… he also muttered something and I glared back with a "what the fuck are you going to do old man" and a half smile as well with an "all night" reply. I did rack up 3 assists in the game… and my collegiate teammate did score a headshot on Driver which perfectly deflected the puck down to the ice and was stuffed in by our worst skater on the rebound!

Sorry for the rant… but that was such a fun night! lol

Bottom line is, if NHLers want to join a beer league with friends, LET THEM! If they are a dick about their skill set while playing in those leagues… players and the league will intervene. Im sure Kane isnt going to do this… he unfortunately has enough heat on him to begin with… just let him enjoy that time.

  3. He’s playing Div 1 CCRHL in Edmonton. Lol funny part is his team “broad street bullies” are the bottom team in the div. I think he’s just subbing under his alias for another player who wears #5.

  4. that's so cool … my buddy got to skate with Brent Seabrook at Johnny's Ice House in 2012 during the lockout😂😂

  5. Weird teammates can happen in a beer league. I got asked to play for a triple-A team in Atlanta for a couple of shifts because they didn't have six players to start the game. Skated out to take the opening faceoff and found myself between Guy Chouinard (the summer after he scored 50) and Bill Clement. I was the worst player in the lowest division of the league, but that was a very cool moment.

  6. I played in a recreation ball hockey league the year nugent-hopkins was drafted and he played on our team one game. We still lost.

  7. It is classless for a pro to play against average joes, unless it is for charity. Retired guys is a different story, but someone in their prime getting paid big money to then destroy amateurs is classless. It is like an adult competing against 8 year olds in a spelling contest.

  8. While this jersey does look cool as a Flyers fan though he would look good in orange and black.
