The New York Islanders Are Still Waiting for News On Alex DeBrincat

Zach Parise won the Bob Nystrom Award for the second consecutive season. We discuss why he was deserving and whether he’ll be back with the Isles next season or if he’ll choose to retire.

Plus, the Islanders are one of two teams still in the running for Alex DeBrincat. We have the latest on the situation and why Detroit remains the favorite to land DeBrincat.

We also discuss why the Isles are likely to make some move this offseason to improve the team, even if the DeBrincat deal never goes through.

All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. This isnt happening. It never happens. MR MAGOO LOU continues to make fools of die hard Islander fans. He just needs to go away … and take his useless son w him😊

  2. Andreoff is 32 and most likely wont get that nhl opportunity with anyone! I heard he may go to europe!

  3. How so? If Parise retires, Gauthier takes his spot, the other 2 are depth that go to Bridgeport!

  4. Taking Gaudreau as an example, Lou isnt a magician, if the player they need Debrincat doesnt wanna come, theres nothing you can do! Ive already heard the offer to Lou is top 1

  5. Lou, there is a thing called 'trading'. Try it sometime. And the list of teams that could offer sheet say bouchard doesn't include isles on it. Lou don't even have the picks to offer sheet anyone. Good job lou. Meanwhile rumor is dufus and pens are in on ek65. -26 ek65, turnover machine letang, and jarry back. What could go wrong with that for pens. Oil may let kraken o s bouchard, take the picks, and acquire ek65 from sj with sj retaining over 20%. The nhl continues to move as lou sleeps.

  6. Apparently the Sens have a handshake deal with the Flames to send Debrincat to Calgary for the season if he's not traded after arbitration, as long as his arbitrated price is close to $7.7M. The Sens would get peanuts (a second pick and a value forward, not sure who), but will swallow it to send him to a non-division rival as they need to free up cap space to make other deals that are in the works. Maybe so, maybe not?

  7. He’s not coming here gil , he said he wants to play in Detroit. According to the islanders never say die podcast tj and grumpys inside source says
Zach is definitely retiring. Why do u think Lou is going to do anything? He’s failed for the last 5 years.

  8. Came away from this one with some feeling of hope , Thanks Gil………..Go Islanders!!!

  9. Remember what i said, Lou can take some heat off himself be showing/telling us he has a plan, SOME of us will have a little more patience with him.

  10. Bravo braavo my friend! The best podcast I’ve seen you do in a long time, no BS, it was cool! Lol, if you could have saw the look on your face, to go along with the deep sigh just before saying DeBrincat. Lol lol, it was priceless! (Sorry for that bro, I honestly wasn’t trying to argue) Wait what, a 38-year-old scored 21 goals & 13 assists & win the Bob Nystrom award how can that be?! Hell ya, Zach deserves it! Even though Hudson gave him a run for his money this season & if Zach wasn’t on our team? (I have a feeling & hope Zach will be back for one last season) Hudson would have deservedly won it. Also, just as a reminder, we traded Anthony Beauvillier, Aatü Räty & a conditional first-round pick for an available elite player (Bo Horvat is very much elite) who scored 38 goals last season. This year? He’ll be the player we traded for. 1, because he’s settled down now emotionally knowing that his family is living here with him! 2, He also gets a chance to play with a healthy Oliver Wahlstrom & a healthy Matt Barzal & a healthy Pageau (who I don’t think was healthy for 95% of the season) Because he didn’t play like Pageau can play. I can’t wait to see all 4 of them back on the ice & playing hockey again! This is what I’m expecting 30-40 goals by Bo Horvat, Wahly, he needs to hit the very minimum of 25 goals & I think he will! Barzal is around 20-25 goals & between 60-70 assists Brock between 30-40 goals & hopefully one of the kids like Dufour who owns a Howitzer! He did score 21 goals for the Bridgeport Islanders & his contract is up 24/25) or Maggio (who’s signed until 25/26) That tells me they think he can play on a high level. Why not, he’s played at a high level everywhere else he’s played. I’m not going to comment on DeBrincat until I see what Steven Bauer has to say about him first, if anything? My dark horse this upcoming season is Hudson Fasching. I’m Just letting you know, so you don’t think I’m a front runner! Lol

  11. Trade palms and pageau for picks and prospects. You clear 10mil you sign wahlstrom to a 6-8 year deal at 4.5-5.5mil. Sign toews to a 1 year deal. Rebuild the prospect pool and open up 4.5+mil cap space up for next offseason when you have guys like matthews, Guentzel, nylander, aho, reinhardt hitting free agency if they don’t get resigned. I think we are rushing this win now mentality a little too much especially when we’ve already given up far too much to get to just an OK hockey team.

  12. Good morning everyone. Thanks again, Gil for another great episode. It's always a pleasure listening. Congrats to Parise on the Bob Nystrom award! He certainly knows HOW to win it. Sadly, I get the feeling he may not be one the ice much longer. On DeBrincat, if he learns the Islanders playing style/system, just like any player wearing an Islander jersey, I will cheer my heart out for him. Causing buzz and other teams interest brings the price up that the Redwings will have to pay for him. Everything tells me he's going to Detroit, so him trying to get what he can is smart on his part. Let me say this good and loud, I DON'T WANT TO LOSE WAHLSTROM!! I have a feeling about him and I believe it is a huge mistake to send him elsewhere.
Everyone have a fantastic weekend. Looking forward to the show Monday. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
