Justin Holl is a Detroit Red Wings for the next 3 years. Last season he played the most 5v5 minutes of any Maple Leaf, what will his role be in Detroit? Reports indicate that Detroit is likely to terminate Filip Zadina’s contract if he refuses to show up in Grand Rapids. Detroit and the Islanders are supposedly finalists for coveted winger Alex DeBrincat. #lgrw

man can we just get Debrincat
hot take: holl scores more goals in the NHL than zadina scores in the NHL.
Debrincat will be a Red Wing…book it. Really just need someone to play leftwing with him and Larkin
I'm not given up hope on holl The best situation that could happen to him Is he proves everyone wrong And he destroys a bunch of players
Where is this hidden upside to Zadina's game??? I don't see it.
Good Luck.
The 2023 draft class was an extremely deep draft. It was too important to give up those quality assets. I'm glad Yzerman didn't use up the 2 1st round draft picks from the recent draft. We would've never acquired both Axel Sandin Pellikka and Nate Danielson. I see Yzerman comfortable trading either the Boston's 1st or a later 1st, like from 2025 or 2026. Obviously, Yzerman will have to add to one of those picks if he decides to aquire Alex DeBrincat.
you guys are harping on the money to Holl like he got chariot money. its not even close. and his analytics are far superior to chariot. 3 years 3.4mil vs 4 years 4.75mil. this isn't only not a BAD contract its a GOOD contract. evolving hockey has his goals above replacement as steady 8 goals above average each of the last 3 years. wins above average steady at 1.5 per season and his contract value based upon performance at 8.5 million. this wasn't a bad contract. it was a very good one. Chariot and Copp both had negative value on the ice analytically last season and they are signed for the next 3-4 years at 10.5 million per. Copp didnt solve our issues down the middle last year and at this point hes a 3rd line center. Hopefully he will improve but that hole meant we went out and signed another long term deal at over 5 million for a guy that doesnt provide much offense to fix our depth at center. those contracts should be more of a concern than Holl. Yzerman STILL could probably pick up draft capital for Chariot at this years deadline by eating salary. This years free agency haul was far superior to last seasons. this is a playoff team even without additional goal scoring if they stay healthy. Sprong and Kostin could really surprise and get top 6 minutes. it may be unfortunate we didnt sign Sprong to more than a 1 year deal.
I think if we get Debrincat we absolutely make them playoffs! 4 years for whatever hes asking for would be the best option imo, but 8 yrs for what we are offering which what I heard was 7.5.
Zadina should take the money and run. It is his money. Why did Yzerman sign him to a 3 year contract? I know this is a business but it doesn't look good after the ugly Vrana debacle.
I wonder the effect of how the Wings handled Vrana has to do with Zadina wanting out so bad as to void his contract to walk away.
Wings last summer signed Chiarot…i wanted Zadorov who is bigger, tougher, more physical, better at both ends of the ice and signed for 1 million less per season on a short term contract. This summer i wanted Luke Schenn, who's bigger (not taller but bigger), tougher, more physical, better defensively and signed for less money. Chiarot proved to be the wrong choice last season and i think Holl will prove to be the wrong choice again.
Forget about Debrincat, he's not worth the assets to trade for or the contract he will sign. Just sign Tarasenko if you want a scorer who will cost no assets, will sign for less money shorter term and he's 6 foot, 220 pounds so not a shrimp like Debrincat. Then you can use those assets you would have wasted on Debrincat to bring in someone else like make an offer for the Canucks Elias Pettersson or Kyle Connor from the Jets or Lawson Crouse from Arizona. Then at least you get a scorer and add another player that could do more than just score for those assets.
I heard Debrincat only wants a 2yr contract, that's a lot of draft capital to surrender for a two-year rental.
I've got it. Yserman is trying to do what Las Vegas did in the expansion draft' He's picking lower talent (cheaper) players and hope they gel into a Stanley cup contender. Ken Hollands picks ( Ramussen, Lindstrom, Zadina, Veleno, and Berggren) haven't panned out, They're bottom six forwards and a sick defenseman. And Yserman's picks haven't been that great either. In the last five drafts only Seider and Raymond have been successful. Picking up bottom six players to fill out the roster SUCKS. Where are the great prospect players the team brags about. Lets play these kids. Lets see what they have to give. I like to see these kids grow in the AHL for a year BUT not 4 years.
Helm was the 4th player in NHL history to go at least 14 years between champions. Do you know the other 3 players?..
one of them won a championship with the Red Wings.
Chelios 86-02
Recchi 91-06
Guerin 95-09
zadina lol can you say bust on another ken holland draft lol wat the hell is he thinking 28 goals 40 assists 68 points in 5 yrs lol not gonna have any teams wanting him he still has hope just cant figure that kid out ever since he had to play a 200’ game messed him up out on the ice?! 🤷♂️🤔🤷♂️
I think Holl is a decent improvement over Hagg and Oesterle combo from last year
Seems to me that Yzerman maximizes the compete factor within the organization – every single skater has to earn their spot in the lineup. But at the same time he values character and positive locker room presence. That's a tough balance to strike, I reckon, but the result may a cohesive unit hungry for W's and ready for success.
I think we all need to be prepared to be shocked what Yzerman has to give up for Debrincat. Less about picks and more young talent.
I can’t believe nobody grabbed Zadina 🤷🏻♂️
Larry Murphy was chased out of Toronto too. Thank you Leaf fans.
Buddy could be paid 1.8 mill a year to play for the Griffins, but instead is gonna walk and take league minimum somewhere else. What happens when he gets waived again? Does he walk and refuse to play for a different AHL team? He might not play NHL anymore with that pattern
