I also didn't like the unified attempt last night from a few of the habs beat reporters and organization to take a page from the Hollywood PR playbook and blaming toxic fandom, instead of taking the heat and criticism from a flawed philosophy and product.
I like Fowler a lot, based of his interview and the videos I’ve watched of him. His style of play reminds me of Carey a bit, he looks calm and in good position. And the Montreal connection you can’t go wrong
The Roman Josi comparaison came from his teamate Éric Faille in an interview at the Podcast On Jase of RDS. In the same league at the same age, David has more points, but what I like is how he describe his progression. They gave him minutes, he took them and got better. Powerplay minutes, he becomes the quaterback of the team…same for penalty kill. Really poise, calm and great first pass and he hits like a truck ! I think we got a gem who really fits and I think there is a second reason why Hugues picked him…he might ply this year already !!! He plus with 20-30 years old so…Can't wait to see him at prospect camp this year !
I was chatting with Hockey junkie this season and we were discussing Florian and how cool it would be if the Habs signed him. Part of me believes the Canadiens organization saw how frustrated the fanbase was for picking a defenseman with their 5th pick and decided to take Florian to calm us down. HAHA!
I saw enough reactions yesterday to see how disappointed most of us were because the majority of people wanted an offensive forward and this draft was an offensive gold mine. I think it's only normal to feel disappointed. I even went as far as to say this is Strike one for Hughes.. I still wish they would have picked a forward. I really liked Leonard and nothing will change that. That said, if the Habs think Reinbacher makes the team better than anyone else they didn't pick, it's their team and I just have to accept that. I also feel bad for Reinbacher. He's a good kid and isn't a bad prospect by any means. He doesn't deserve to be in the center of so much disappointment and in same cases hate. As Hockey Junkie said, he's a Hab now and I too will cheer for him to reach his potential.
I watched the Fowler interview and this kid is really bright. He's a great communicator and seems to see the big picture. It's very impressive for an 18 year old. He speaks like a 45 year old GM. I don't know how good he will be and how far his playing career will go but after hockey, I don't see why he couldn't start a career in management.
David Reinbacher: "Rein" means "clean" or "pure"; "Bach" (small river) means "creek". He's a good guy, a fantastic hockey player. Let's give him a chance. Go Habs go.
Reinbacher was not on anyone's radar…..too much emphasis was on Misckov, Smith and others but Hughes has filled a position we needed help on RD. this will prove to be a great pick.. analytics has him listed as Elite and second only to Bedard so the numbers say we did great….we just did not look at this player logically as we felt he was not an option but obviously Hughes and staff knew better
Not sure why Drew thought we would draft a forward at 5 this year. From all the platforms I’ve seen, it has been 1) Will Smith, 2) David Reinbacher and 3) Leonard/Michkov for 2 months now. Only on Quebec it was all Michkov.
I think Reinbacher and Josi will have vastly different roles. MSL will probably have Hutson running PP1 whereas Reinbacher will be eating a ton of PK minutes and have secondary PP duty. I really like this pick. A right shot D with this type of skillset would cost a fortune in the free agency or trade markets. Montreal has one of the stronger young D-cores around the league.
I like how Reinbacher and Hutson are both coming to the NHL at around the same time. And playing together off the bat gives them the best chance to become a high-end defensive line.

If Michkov wasn't available there would have been nothing said about Reinbacher – he is no doubt a quality player. Michkov will be in the NHL as soon as 2024-25 – we'll see if Habs are lamenting the use of their 5th pic. Michkovs only come around so often – and teams are only in the position to draft them so often. Let the results be the judge.
Not all of the best picks are the sexy picks. Look at the Leafs, they have a lot of dynamic forwards that put up points but always disappoint when it matters. We like to critique them for lacking D and goaltending, then when we draft the best D man of the draft and 3 goaltenders fans are disappointed. It makes no sense.
Human beings tend to try to find explanations for the wrong or meaningless things that happen in our lives. Henibecker being chosen was a mistake because the team is full of defenders and he was not the best possible choice at that moment in the draft, the fact that Kent and Jeff agree most of the time does not exempt them from making judgments or making controversial decisions or meaningless. I still think it was a totally wrong decision because for this position they are well served by defenders and we have an excellent squad. If they really had made the right decision, I believe that most YouTube influencers and other platforms would be making videos about the technical part of it, about the skills and not making videos trying to find justifications that base this choice on the least controversy, to have idea we are happier to have Xhekaj's brother on the team than our draft pick.
I followed the processes that the Habs went through in the boardroom last year when they agonized over picking Slav at #1. The guy who I admired then for his steadfast determination in supporting Slav. was NIck Bobrov who is the head scout for Europe. He's the same guy who fought for Reinbacher whom I believe will be one of the top 10 D in 5 years down the road. In Bobrov I trust!
I have no doubt Reinbacher is going to be a good defenseman, the thing that sucks is wasting a 5th overall pick on him in the deepest draft in almost 2 decades. Habs NEED scoring, not more D. Now that the kid received some hate mail, everyone is going back on saying they were pissed that we drafted him, and now they're happy with the pick. I feel terrible for the kid too, but it doesn't change the fact that he wasn't the right pick, no matter how bad everyone feels for him. Again, I have no doubt Reinbacher is going to be a fine defenseman, but we NEED scoring. We already were pretty defensively sound. This is going to be the early 2000's all over again. THEN we draft 3 more D, and 3 goalies, I was so happy with Hughes and Gorton til this draft. Even giving away our second 2 picks for Newhook wasn't REALLY a smart move.
