[Elliotte Friedman] As of late Sunday night, Carolina and Pittsburgh are the two teams left standing in the Erik Karlsson trade talks

– Seattle took a run at him but are out, both Carolina and Pittsburgh remain very interested
– Dubas wants to do more to reshape the roster, Karlsson isn’t the only thing he’s going after
– Even if he doesn’t get Karlsson, Friedman doesn’t think he’s close to done
– Pettersson is a big part of what they’re hoping to achieve in the future
– “If he can get Karlsson, he will.”

  1. Dude. Just imagine EK65 dishing perfect saucers to BJC. Dream team scenario

  2. Haven’t listened but what does he mean about Pettersson? Lol

I’ve actually really started to sell myself on the idea of Karlsson being a totally freewheeling offensive presence on the second pair along side Pettersson or Graves and QBing PP1. Let Letang’s pair handle the heavy assignments (which they would anyway playing primarily behind Crosby’s line) and give Karlsson not necessarily sheltered, but easier minutes and just let him eat.

Having that kind of transition and offensive creativity on the back end also helps offset how inept our bottom 6 currently is. If Karlsson can put up 100 points playing on last year’s Sharks team, he can be effective playing shifts behind our bottom 6.

my hope is that they get this sorted by EOW. the anticipation is killing me 🥲

If Dubas views Pettersson as a big piece of the team going forward, that’s good to hear. He’s not (and never will be) what Dumoulin was at his peak. But Pettersson is very good at what he does: taking away space and passing lanes. He’s excellent at gap control and disrupting play. He’s thin as a spaghetti noodle, and plays as such. But his stick-work, positioning, and mobility is good enough to where it doesn’t matter.

Letangs never been a true PPQB. Would be fun to see EK run the show and let Letang focus on everything else. Graves-Ek, Petts-Letang, POJ-Rutta not a bad group.

Even with this move though we still have a goalie with questions and lack a legit 3rd line to contend. Along with one top 6 injury from being in real trouble. I wouldn’t mind it though, next year would be very fun to watch. I’m not sold on Pickering and if we have a decent season next year’s 1st is late.

  7. Interesting. I think if the Canes can pull Tarasenko then we’ll get EK. Tarasenko is going to pick the Canes over the Sens without any doubts.

The more I think of this, the more I think this makes 0 sense for the Hurricanes and every bit of sense for the Penguins. Regardless, both teams have all the leverage over the Sharks.

Been a while since I put anyone other than Crosby on a jersey, but I’d IMMEDIATELY splurge for an EK65 jersey!

I want to believe this can happen but doesn’t EK have a NTC? Why would he want to come here?
