[Scott Malone] In the event anyone sees this… #SeaKraken GM Ron Francis: + Happy with Dumoulin addition + Having conversations with Borgen & Dunn + Admits arbitration cases of Geekie and Sprong were a big factor in decision making + Awaiting eligibility decision on Wright & AHL next season

Since Twitter is ruined, figured a screenshot would be best. https://twitter.com/ScottMaloneTV/status/1675261372207370240?t=tbl_sa3kqPSSC6uE1Bc5DA&s=19

I have a hard time believing letting Soucy walk and signing Dumoulin was plan A.. I’m thinking something blew up along the way and we had to pivot.

More info from Mike Benton on the Wright situation:

[Ron Francis on Shane Wright possibly playing in the AHL next season: “We are having discussions. We’ll see where they go. There’s an agreement in place but here’s also sort of a common sense kind of way of looking at things and what’s best for the for the individual player.”](https://twitter.com/Benton_Mike/status/1675264459378692096?t=M0NcBN4Hw4322kaIAUNdyA&s=19)

[Francis projected the decision will be made between the OHL and the CHL, the overall governing body, in connection with the CHL-NHL agreement. Wright has been OHL eligible for 4 years, but only played 3 (COVID cancellation in 2020-21).](https://twitter.com/Benton_Mike/status/1675265991641812993?t=0H0tazZW_7M8iIMXW1IfDg&s=19) (/u/alienbanter note that one of the 3 years referred to here, this year, was only 24 games and the OHL considers 25 a season)

    Other bits from Alison:

[Francis spoke well of #SeaKraken players who moved on via free agency. Donato even called after signing with Chicago to thank the organization for everything. “a class act” Francis said.](https://twitter.com/AlisonL/status/1675261747320737792?t=P-uxJw1pdZMeA3rm4MAMnA&s=19)

[Francis says #SeaKraken not necessarily “done” in free agency action but thought it important to step back and take a breath after what’s been an insane stretch (my description!) with two sets of playoffs, Drafts, Awards and free agency](https://twitter.com/AlisonL/status/1675262175299141632?t=EvA3FQ2vcmU_cmAMiNj4Tw&s=19)

[Ron Francis says he got a call from Andre Burakovsky recently. The forward said he’s “feeling great. Stronger and stronger every day” Francis says Burky is on track for a full return this fall #SeaKraken](https://twitter.com/AlisonL/status/1675260900243304449?t=ovcBYzWNhXoJU6EVn5rXaQ&s=19)

[AHL standouts Tye Kartye and Ryker Evans are excused from dev camp this year…a “little banged up” after a lot of hockey in that Calder Cup run. Ville Ottavainen had long travels to Finland so no demand for a quick turnaround and long flight back. #SeaKraken](https://twitter.com/AlisonL/status/1675261375193698304?t=5pM917BrQ8_YgrLeOTIKYQ&s=19)

    And from Emerald City Hockey:

[Ron Francis on getting a Matty Beniers extension done this summer: “We’d like to do that for sure.” They’ll start looking at those discussions after today. #SEAKraken](https://twitter.com/EmeraldCityHky/status/1675261663933771776?t=PEPxtXLyeIF-LG5WXIgcqg&s=19)

[Ron Francis on the #SEAKraken goalie situation: “We’ve got three [goalies] and only two nets…So two will play and unless we do something between now and the start of the season, then one will have to go through waivers and go down to Coachella.”](https://twitter.com/EmeraldCityHky/status/1675263058963492864?t=2efEYg5_DBYrgfZjCUI08g&s=19)

[Francis confirms that arbitration cases were a factor in not qualifying Sprong and Geekie. Says he made “what I thought was a pretty fair offer” to Geekie but it didn’t work out. #SEAKraken](https://twitter.com/EmeraldCityHky/status/1675265240177729536?t=GhqKWXsFJ1eVMCwTL0NkOw&s=19)

[Ron Francis says term was a factor in not bringing back Carson Soucy. “It’s important when we’re building this thing that we’re not blocking Ryker [Evans] moving forward.” That might explain the Dumoulin signing on a shorter term than Soucy would’ve taken. #SEAKraken](https://twitter.com/EmeraldCityHky/status/1675275049534910464?t=z4Jm4r5G_piqkZX9hM0Nmg&s=19)

[Ron Francis says Matty Beniers was brought to dev camp last year so the young players could see his work habits and learn from them. He hopes Shane Wright can do the same thing this year. “He learned from Matty last year and hopefully passes that on to these guys.” #SEAKraken](https://twitter.com/EmeraldCityHky/status/1675277350827855872?t=A9eeJuo_3tJoho6UkddmBw&s=19)

    From Sound of Hockey:

[Loved this line from Ron Francis today: “We got pretty fortunate last year with Oliver Bjorkstrand. I’m not saying that’s going to happen again, but we are in a position where we can take advantage of something if it shakes loose.” #SeaKraken](https://twitter.com/sound_hockey/status/1675275370931851264?t=C-oEt59djju2FQoOUCFpxw&s=19)

  3. PandarenNinja

What is the decision on Wright? As far as I know he is NOT AHL eligible. Is this up for debate?

  4. First-Radish727

I admire your discipline in having tweets left to scroll! I’m out of luck until tomorrow,

  5. SeattleKrakenTroll

For those in the dark, the issue with Shane is basically weird circumstances due to Covid season and him missing out on a few games last season. Any other normal time period and he’d be AHL eligible so Kraken are asking for special consideration here

  6. BenSoloGhost

Not fan of him saying “arbitration cases” were a factor. Not a fan of that kind of GM mentality of being pissy about that a year later and what it can do for further FA
