Instant Analysis – Dmitry Orlov Signs 2-Year/$7.75M Deal With Hurricanes

Steve Dangle, Adam Wylde and Jesse Blake discuss the Carolina Hurricanes decision to sign defenceman Dmitry Orlov to a 2-year/$7.75M deal. Do we like this better than if they would have just traded for Sharks defencemen Erik Karlsson?

  1. The way money is being thrown around in this weak FA class is ridiculous
But for Canes i can understand bcoz they are on that verge of winning SC and maybe only a piece away so it makes sense

  2. Big mistake here guys, Svech on the IR is counting towards the cap, they still have about 7 mil in cap to spend.

  3. Slavin – Karlsson
    Orlov – Burns
    Skjei – TDA
(Assuming Pesce is a part of Karlsson trade)

    Wouldn't it be awesome?
Canes outscored the opposition, like, 35 to 25, and this wasn't enough. Solution? Get more blue line firepower, outscore opposition 40 to 25. Who even needs forwards?

  4. Besides people pointing out that the guys got the cap space the Canes have wrong, a huge thing that was missed here is that the Orlov contract expires at the same time Alexander Nikishin's KHL contract expires.

  5. Really poor coverage on the canes. Messed up the cap number and also missed that lebrun almost Immediately said the canes were not out on EK with this move. Also the idea that PK would be moved is crazy he is waiver exempt so he is extremely valuable whenever a goalie needs to step out of rotation. Also if he develops as he has, there will be a massive savings with a goalie at 2m.
Can't wait for the rest of the moves to see this trio react lol.
