perfect scenario imo. not even a pick from this draft. very happy with this

Bailey and a 2026 second rounder to Chicago for future considerations

  3. dang, very unfortunate way for Bailey’s Isles career to end. I do think that he will be looked at very fondly in like 3-5 years once his whole body of work as an Islander is considered

  4. toledosurprised

dang, hopefully that pick doesn’t end up being a really high 2nd, 2026 is a long way away. some of y’all on here were really saying we wouldn’t have to give up a pick to get rid of him, insane

Appreciate Josh’s service through the years but his complete drop-off in terms of effectiveness was staggering.

That extra 5 million in cap space is very, very sweet.

Initial reaction is… mixed. But honestly I’m not suprised. Kinda sad about it but it is what it is. Wish we could’ve gotten something out of it instead of also losing a draft pick

  7. Man, I knew he had to be moved but seeing it officially is actually pretty sad. Dudes been an Islander for pretty much as long as I’ve been a serious hockey fan. Bailey was a real soldier for us

  8. CupAdministrative239

Farewell Josh. You stuck with the team through what felt like the lowest of lows. Unfortunately it was time to move on.

This one fucking hurts not gonna lie. It was time for this to happen, but thank you josh for your playoff performances 🙁

Can Lee and JGP be next please

Also, this might be one of those trades that becomes significant down the line. If we fall off the way I expect us to, that 2nd rounder in 2026 might be high and in the middle of a rebuild

It’s a sad way to end it but the cap space is needed, be nice to him Chicago

Bailey in a Hawks jersey is going to look WEIRD.

I knew it was coming but I still feel bad

  13. Wow, not gonna lie this has me feeling a bit emotional, I’ve been a fan since 06 and was at Josh Bailey’s first NHL game and so many more after that. I associate him with the Islanders I grew up watching all the way up to now. End of an era for me, I think Josh deserves to at least be in the Isles HoF one day not long after he retires. I don’t think his jersey should be retired, I don’t think he was ever good enough for that honestly, but he absolutely deserves to be recognized in our HoF just for being such a good team player for so long, being a solid playoff performer and just sticking around all the times he did.

Happy for him but sad. I know he’s declined but always been a fan.

Elite 1st line winger playing with Bedard

    NO!!!!!!!!! Thanks for everything Bailey

Deep down I know this needed to be done. Even for a single year with the Cap not growing due to covid, his AAV is too much. But damn does this hurt bad.

Bailey is an Islander through and through. He was a hard worker that kept his head down and gave us a lot of seasons. His hockey IQ is insane even if his skills couldn’t keep up with it. I will miss him. Good news is that if he is on the ice I will get to see him play in Chicago when I go to the Isles game, and the Kraken game here next season.

Outside my feelings for Bailey, this is a good trade. He doesn’t hold much value vs the massive contract so never expected to get much for him. Between him and Hall and the other vets Chicago is bringing in Bedard is going to get a massive boost to his NHL career debut.

NOOO. I was braced for this but hopeful something could change. Thank you our modern mr islander. Now Lou needs to make good use of this cap space and not another Andrew Ladd trade situation

🎶Byeeeee Josh Bailey, oooh ahhh, you gotta go oh oh, to Chicago!🎶

  20. seanvettel-31

Thank you Josh. But holy crap the amount of money we now have off the books

Strangely I’m not as sad as I expected, probably because it was so telegraphed. But once I see him in a different uniform I think it will hit harder. Love ya Bails, you’ll always have a home here.
