  1. His father played in the league, and he’s in the OHL he is a defender who had a decent amount of pts last year as well.

  2. Goodnature224

I know nothing about this dude but that’s a great name so i’m all in

  3. #BONK

great fucking name dudes gonna be a stud on name alone

  4. Absolutely hate this pick with some of the names left on the board, but not gonna let it bring me down because we got the 2nd best player in the draft and this was clearly a selection for need.

  5. arvo_sydow

I’m not appreciating that 2010 Kane-esque flow, but I can’t help but respect it at the same time.

  6. Thursdeh

Good pick just feels bad to pick him over Perreault

  7. Col_Bernie_Sanders_

Relevant for how I’m feeling about picking Michkov

  8. ChinChillaGames

Love me a defensive defenseman, can’t even lie. With the name too? Kid pans out he will be a cult ICON

  9. BothMyChinsAreSpicy

Can’t remember if his dad got beat up in the famous line brawl but always liked him as a player. I feel old.

  10. 420BlzItRocko

As long as he isn’t anything like his cousin, I’m happy with this. We have needs in all areas except goaltending.

  11. ThePalmIsle

I hope this isn’t a reach for position rather than BPA

  12. Streetkillz13

He’s a good player and becomes our top RHD prospect. I’d love to have taken Perrault, but don’t hate the pick of a 2-way defender who is very likely to make the NHL.

  13. NH-INDY-99

London Knights fan here. You guys got a stud. BONK!

  14. Snips_Tano

This guy needs to work out for the name alone

  15. Meh pick imo. Not a high end talent. But at least hes a RHD and who the fuck knows how he turns out.

But tough when Perrault is right there and guys like Moore and Pelikka are right before you. Prospects like Pelikka and Moore are in many scouts views *multiple* tiers above someone like Bonk.

Not great value for pick 22 in best draft since 2015. Bonk is just a normal late 1st round pick that is more likely to be depth player than core impact guy.

But we badly needed RHD …

Bonk and not adding any other 1sts would be very disappointing after the great Michkov pick.

  16. PhillyLoaded

Can’t help but to think we blew this pick, how do we not take Perrault there. Very happy with michkov though. I’d say Danny B grades out to a C+ on this draft

  17. Dont_Call_Me_John

If you told me Bonk at 22 before the night started, I’d have been underwhelmed, and then Perreault and Cristall fell all the way and they did it anyway

    Scouting Reports:

Oliver Bonk: Bonk is a two-way defenseman with high hockey IQ and a threat on the rush. The right-handed shot is capable of transitioning the puck quickly while using his size to shut down plays and move opposing forwards down low. After selecting Leonard earlier, the Flyers would be wise to choose a top-tier defenseman with a well-rounded game.

Bonk (6-1, 180), a right-handed shot with a well-rounded skill set and the smarts that come from having a father, Radek Bonk, who played in the NHL.

Bonk, the son of former NHLer Radek Bonk, has entered into the first-round conversation with a strong end to the OHL season. The talented two-way defender is mobile and defensively sound. His passing is crisp and there is plenty of offensive potential in his game.

Bonk is one of the most talented defensemen available in the draft so he may go higher than he deserves to based on talent alone. This draft is heavy on forwards and a little thin on defensemen, which makes Bonk more enticing for teams looking to bolster their prospect pool on defense.
Bonk will not wow you with his offensive upside, but he is a capable defensive defenseman who can shut down even the most skilled forwards.

Happy with this pick. Kid was bouncing between 12-15 in early mocks. Possession D-man that can lead a transition and eat up minutes out there. Has a scorers touch. Like a combo of what provolone and ghost should have been.

  20. wellfuckingshit

I can already hear JJ ……“Bonk dishes it to Brink! He shoots! He scores!” 🥹

  21. brendan_seka1776

Not a bad pick but could’ve done better in my eyes. I think he will safely be an NHL defenseman of his defensive ability but I don’t think he has the star power to be a top paring stud. Wanted Perrault bad, also liked Brindley and Cristall just because of the higher ceiling. Even at D liked Mikhail Gulyayev but at the end of the day not an awful pick. The way I look at it was we got a franchise player and still kept our other first rounder, so as long as we get someone I’m happy

  22. Icecube3343

Really would have liked them to take a flyer on Cristall. Didn’t really hear much about Bonk all season until the last week or so when he was rumored to go to us

  23. mookiebraves

I did a fake mock a few days ago and had us taking Mitchkov and Simashev.

Can’t believe the Yotes took him that high.

  24. CircusOfBlood

I know some people are like how did we select him when X was there. But at the end of the day. Bonk is a very good defensive prospect. We most likely got a good player. But it’s the draft and you never know. If the team signed off and felt good about him. Plus knowing who his dad is. I’m very happy with this pick

  25. bananacoxx

So this seems to be the polar opposite of our first pick? Kid seems just mediocre at everything. Eh

  26. Bumblebeee_tuna_

Feels like another Sanheim-type. Big, not very physical, good passer for breakouts but not a great offensive touch, strong skater

  27. odd-gnome

How is no one talking about us now having Bonk and Bump?

  28. Natural_Marketing_72

Flyers are in their bonked up era

  29. FrozenPhoenix1892

Not a sexy pick, but a necessary one. D core was looking blesk

  30. Whitealroker1

Late 90s memories of pulling Radek Bonk autos out of classic hockey products washing over me
