Great pick. Can’t wait to see how we ruin him.
Wait. Did we make a good pick?
What a steal.
Rangers had a top 10 talent available on the board and took him. Absolutely incredible. What a moment
Let’s go
I like it, here’s hoping it works out…we really needed a RW
Seems like a low risk pick. Just grab the best player that fell to your range. Awesome.
he can’t skate for shit, which is not something we’re good at developing….
What do they mean by his skating isn’t great?
Best available player- wow,
Hockey IQ off the charts- wow!,
Broke Auston Matthews USDP scoring record- WOW!,
Skating is an issue- NO NOT AGAIN!!!!!
Copy and paste here from Sportsnet draft ratings. They had him rated 16th.
>Used in all situations at the U18 Worlds. Elite element is his offensive upside. Fantastic puck touch and elusive in tight quarters. Deceptive. Creative. Top six and potential to be a top line player. Especially dangerous on the PP. Skating has room for more power, but mechanics are sound. Three zone detail has ranged, but his year-end effort and detail was the best it has been.
Sounds like very high offensive upside. They note his skating isn’t the best, and he’s not very physical. They didn’t have his name on the jersey so I think they weren’t expecting for him to be available.
Would it kill them to take a center like Ritchie
Do you think like when he hears rangers picking him he like fuck there goes my development
Can’t complain at all taking him at the 23rd pick. Gotta be happy with it.
Can’t wait for the Rangers to ruin his development and fans who don’t know what they are talking about calling him a bust when he has good 5v5 stats and zero PP stats because you can’t get PP stats with one second PP time
I am so happy
I’m shocked! Great pick here. Gabe was ranked #10 by Bob McKenzie and #15 by Craig button, bunch of other scouts and websites had him going anywhere from 10-21. Love it
Love the pick what a steal
Hot take the Rangers might actually NOT fuck up this kid’s development, late first rounders seem to work out decently for us (see Kreider, Chytil, Miller, Schneids). I’m choosing to have faith especially if bro has broken some of Matthews’ and Hughes’ records. Does anyone know when he might make it to the NHL?
I fucking love it. Swing for the fences
Honestly this could end up being a steal, please please please develop him properly!
Now we just gotta hire a new skating coach
Kreider teach him speed plz
Best case scenario, so much raw talent just gotta see if we can develop it for once
Thrilled with this pick. The exact opposite of the “safe” draft strategy of the previous regime
Boom or bust but they didn’t pick off the board for once, so cool. For the love of god though, get someone to teach these kids how to skate. We now have another player who isn’t a great skater.
JFC talk about an absolute stroke of luck
How long will he be at BC?
Love the pick. Even more so, thanks to Guerin in Minnesota taking Stramel off the board, it removed any temptation from Drury’s grasp.
Guys we didn’t get all cutesy and we actually picked the best player available. Is this really the Rangers?!
My entire life you could physically feel Glen Sathers gross, wrinkly hands at the rangers draft table.
Those dark ages are finally done. God bless Chris drury, you beautiful bastard.
Very unhappy about this pick. Would have been much happier with Cristall or Stenberg or even Musty. This guy is basically a poor man’s Lafreniere with even worse skating who’s points are dramatically inflated by his linemates this year. Just praying he develops well at Boston College now.
I’m literally so damn excited but you can only laugh a little bit when the broadcast says 10 seconds in “*skating is the issue*”
Someone tell me how to feel his highlights looked great
So what are we expecting? How long should we let him develop before heavy starts in NHL
Vally approved this draft pick: [https://twitter.com/VallysView/status/1674235900937551873?s=20](https://twitter.com/VallysView/status/1674235900937551873?s=20)
Yay. Another promising prospect to destroy. Poor kid doesn’t stand a chance.
Rated #10 by McKenzie
Hoping Muse has a huge plan for his development considering he coached him
rangers get some luck and don’t get cute with their pick??! i love that
How did this kid fall to us!??!?!
Folks are worried about his skating. I’m more worried that, though his stats at that level are eye-popping, he seems to be very much a pass-first player. Don’t we have 12 forwards on the team already who are pass-first? Not sure anyone on the roster really wants to shoot. 2 minutes of awesome passing on the power play got really old last season.
Maybe we took a clumsy skater because we are investing in a skate coach and he’s just getting added to the class list
There was no way to anticipate that he’d fall to 23, but it’s more that other GM’s “reached” enough, and less that he “fell.” This was an easy pick. Passing on him would have been a mistake.
Kid had more points than Will Smith who went 4 overall. We got really lucky. Easily could have been top 10 pick.
Not a Rangers fan, but this sub is usually recommended to me. This looks like an absolute steal for the Rangers. I had to do a double take cause I didn’t realize Perreault was still available at 20. Let alone 23. Curious why he fell so far though. Figured he was a mid teens pick at worst.
Are the bloggers/twitter furious yet?
This pick has a little bit of Cam Fowler feel to me. But this time we made the pick. Hope P turns out as good for us Cam did for the ducks.
