  1. I’m not prepared for what this sub will become if we take Smith.

Imho I think Carlsson and Smith are close enough as prospects that if they were to take Smith, I’d be cool with it. I feel that Carlsson is a better prospect, but the scouting team has given me enough reason to trust them, and if after everything they think that Smith is their guy, fine with me.

But if they get to the scenario where Fantilli and Smith are both at 3 and they’re leaning Smith like Portzline may have been hinting at, I’ll get upset at that one.

Obviously Smith doesn’t have Carlssons size or defense but there’s plenty of talent evaluators that have him as the 2 steps ahead of Carlsson offensively and believe he can be a elite 1C.

“He’s one of those players that, consistent with the [U.S.] program, has the excellent speed and quickness,” Dan Marr, the director of NHL Central Scouting, said Thursday in a phone interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia. “It’s difference-making type of speed and quickness. But to go along with that, he’s got the offensive instincts and intuition where he reads the play and anticipates and reacts. And it’s all at an unbelievable quickness. He gets opportunities and creates opportunities that others don’t see at the same times, it takes them a little longer.”

Also don’t forget the USNDT does play some colleges, and Smith averaged a higher ppg in 22 games than Fantilli did vs colleges by about .02.

Smith gets compared to a center version of Mitch Marner who has 554 points in 507 career games.

And it should cost Jarmo and JD their jobs.

Not a fan but not my job to care. If it happens let the Will Smith slaps, Men In Black, Fresh Prince, Bad Boy, Dodgers HR hero memes begin

I am not necessarily against drafting Will Smith. I think he’s going to be a heck of a player in the NHL and might have a higher ceiling, so I get it.

To me, the key thing is just getting a Center with upside. All of these guys fit the bill.

Smith out produced logan cooley in the same league by a lot so he may be the real deal. Who knows, just hope we pick the right guy.

I’m just saying if we do, I hope we’re able to trade back.

Look, I like Smith. I’d welcome him with open arms. I just think you have a better chance of success in the playoffs with a guy like Carlsson.

Like the rest of Ohio right now, just be smoke

Will Smith is a smallish center with elite offensive skill and a propensity to loaf on the back check. He will take at least 3 years to get to the big club, 2 of which will be at Boston College. He needs a long time to mature, put on weight and adjust to the pro game. Leo Carlsson had one of the greatest statistical seasons of all time against pros in the SHL. He is 6’3 and is a much better two way player, while also possessing elite skill. This is not close. Carlsson is closer to Fantilli than Smith.

Smh, I disagree with this, but not my job so let’s see how it turns out if this is what happens.

I’ve been team Carlsson since we got #3…..but after the draft lottery I walked back in to work (from my break) and the song that was playing on the radio was “Gettin Jiggy with it.” By Will Smith. I made a post the night of, but now that we are getting closer to it becoming a reality, I just think it’s pretty funny.
