Many expected the top storyline to be Jack Hughes versus Trevor Zegras as the Anaheim Ducks traveled out to the Prudential Center to take on the Devils. Instead, both teams put on a defensive showcase, with the Devils emerging on top, 2-1 in a penalty shootout. There were some reminders of the team’s inconsistencies, specifically with some high energy offensive stretches only yielding one goal. However, Hughes’ line electrified the arena and Nico Daws remained strong in net all night long before the Devils took care of business in the shootout. Coach Ruff credited his team for their performance over the final 40 minutes, and the homestand as a whole, as they finish 3-1 before heading up north.
