[Arpon Basu] Further to Pierre’s reporting here that Dubois is leaning to the Kings, I’m told the Canadiens are still open to finding a way to make this work should those talks go off the rails. A source close to Dubois said it’s too soon to rule them out, as unlikely as it seems right now.

Can this just end? Am I the only one who doesn’t want him? The whole point of getting this guy was he *wanted* to come here. Giving up assets just doesn’t seem worth it to me.

If we give up FLA’s 1st, someone like Riley Kidney and Jake Evans to get him, then by all means do it. But giving up anything more … meh… hard pass.

Honestly, I don’t really care now. Like, shit or getnoff the pot. Is it really worth this much hassle? I like Dubois, but his point totals don’t match his asking price, and it sounded like it was all but done yesterday. I’ve heard it was about done, but Dubois hasn’t had a chance to talk to LA.

Very much fine with the habs not trading assets like Iafallo, Villardi, prospects and picks + paying Dubois 8.5M$ at this point of the rebuild tbh

  5. Really dont like how the habs seem to be just being used for extra leverage to get a bigger haul and bigger contract.

I am fine being the safety net of PLD makes it to free agency

  7. Pierre mentions that Jets don’t see us as a trade fit because they don’t want to rebuild. They’re losing their entire team, but they don’t want to rebuild lmao

  8. Just end it , let me hear about how the habs might draft Michkov for 2 more days

PLD is a good player. First line talent, plays a heavy game, can play Center or wing, good for around 30g and nearly a ppg player. Still only 24. If he wants to come to Montreal, great, he’d be a valuable asset. But, we’re rebuilding, and if it means trading several young assets to get him and then we have to break the bank to sign him… it’s not meant to be. Just not the right time.

I’d like him for a sane price and deal. I will be slightly bummed when he goes to kings even if the price and deal are high…I had believed the rumours for too long

Keep your filthy hands off my Dach Winnipeg.

LOL this is 100% just being floated out there to put pressure on the Kings, and nothing else.

“Whoa now you better give me that 9×8 contract I want or I might have to double back to Montreal, who knows!”

  13. “Wait, you were serious about wanting 9M per year?” – LA, probably

Management: Not getting enough clicks today on the athletic web site.

    Arpon: Hold my beer.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I recall reading somewhere that an offer-sheeted player cannot be traded for one year after signing a contract.

Could Hughes use this as a negotiation tactic if Dubois is really serious about wanting to play here? This is assuming Hughes already has an idea for a long term deal the following year.

Imagine for a moment he offers a package to WPG and tells their GM to either take it or that he’ll sign Dubois to a 1yr deal for 6.4 million – or whatever the compensation is for next year for the Jets to get a 1st and a 3rd round pick.

If the Jets match, they lose him to UFA the next summer. If they don’t, they get the picks, which they might not want since they’re apparently looking to retool and not rebuild.

It’d be a gamble for sure. If the Habs manage to be more competitive and end up drafting outside the top 5-7 it’d be a steal. If they continue to suck and draft top 5 then is looks really bad however.

  16. I think Dubois would be a player we need. And we’d have a very good 1/2C, the best we’ve had in a very long time. For this, I think we should get him. But not at any cost either. I’m just wondering if 8M AAV wouldn’t be worth it? It would likely be 1-2 M AAV more than he’s proved so far. We’ve needed centres for a long time, and now that we could have 2, we’re shying away because of 2M and some prospects? If they’re asking for either Caufield or Suzuki, then this is a sideways deal and not worth.

  17. Petit_Hughie

Don’t forget that it’s a trade. Nothing force the Jets to trade him to the Habs. PLD will go wherever the fuck they decide to trade him.

  18. realm_fury

Lol he’s not going to like LA. He’ll be screaming to get out of there soon enough.

  19. WeimarStreetCrust

LA just take Dubois already so this bullshit media speculation can end please?

The draft speculation is annoying enough.
