A Week In Review: Maple Leafs Trade Rumors: Nylander, Matthews, and Coach Keefe’s Future”

Hey All,

Need some help catching up with last week’s Leafs news? Here are summaries for 4 of the most important leafs articles!

**4 Potential Trade Spots for Maple Leafs Winger William Nylander**

With the possibility of a major roster shakeup for the Toronto Maple Leafs after another disappointing postseason, William Nylander seems to be the most logical trade option. Nylander has a below-market contract and is a 40-goal, 80-point winger, making him a valuable short-term trade chip. Potential trade spots for Nylander include the Colorado Avalanche, who can offer defensive player Devon Toews, the Carolina Hurricanes, who need more finishers at forward, the Calgary Flames, who could take one more run at contending with Nylander, and the Detroit Red Wings, who could use Nylander’s help and have salary-cap flexibility. However, each trade will need to be creatively constructed to ensure a package that works for both teams. **Auston Matthews Would Be Wise to Sign New Maple Leafs Contract Amid Latest NHL Rumors**

The future of Auston Matthews with the Toronto Maple Leafs is causing concern among fans, as his contract ends at the end of next season. He is expected to have a greater role in the negotiation of the new deal alongside general manager Brad Treliving, team advisor Shane Doan and his agent Judd Muldavor. Matthews has lived up to his potential on the stat line but has not yet won the Stanley Cup, and contractual uncertainty could add to distractions during a potentially defining season. Matthews is an integral part of Toronto’s future and must work with the team to get a deal done to ensure a bright future for the championship-hungry fan base. **Sheldon Keefe will remain coach of Toronto Maple Leafs**

Toronto Maple Leafs fans can breathe a sigh of relief as reports confirm Sheldon Keefe will be at the helm of the team as head coach for the 2023-2024 season. Keefe has been coaching the Leafs since taking over for Mike Babcock during the 2019-2020 season and has led them to consistent postseason appearances. However, despite the regular-season success, there were still questions looming over Keefe’s future, with the playoff record being a major factor. Despite winning their first playoff series in 17 years, the Leafs faltered once again in the postseason and were sent home early. This did not stop Maple Leafs’ President of Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan from securing Keefe’s future, especially with his contract set to expire. With the “Core Four” of star players on the brink of imploding, fans and management need Keefe to succeed in the upcoming season if they hope to achieve championship success. **Maple Leafs & Flames Could Make Major Trade Involving Matthews**

The Calgary Flames are facing a challenging situation as several of their top players have expressed their desire to not re-sign with the team, leaving them in a precarious position. This is an opportunity for the Toronto Maple Leafs to make a significant trade and improve their team for a hard push in the playoffs. The Flames have assets that the Maple Leafs could use, including a top-pairing defenseman, a top-six winger, a third-line center, and a possible goaltender. Trading William Nylander to the Flames, or even potentially trading Auston Matthews, could help fill the voids in Toronto’s lineup. However, Matthews may be asking for a high salary, which could make things difficult for the Maple Leafs. Ultimately, the Flames and Maple Leafs will need to make some tough decisions in the coming season to ensure their success. I’m definitely breathing a sigh of relief that the Leafs are re-signing a coach who has failed year after year at moving past the first round of the playoffs. Boy oh boy, what an amazing feeling. There’s nothing like rewarding mediocrity to get me pumped for the new season!!

lol, the Leafs aren’t trading Matthews to the Flames.

If we’re trading with them it’s to pick the carcass for supporting pieces for Matthews(ie- Toffoli)

The Flames have nothing worth Matthews. Even their firsts probably won’t be high enough with him to make it worthwhile, and they’d be crazy to trade for him without a contract in place.

Not a fan of any of those Nylander trades.

The Leafs problem is that we have too much cap allocated to 4 forwards. Why is the solution to trade the only one of them that is actually on a value deal?
