The Canucks are set to buy out the remainder of Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s contract, effectively freeing up cap space over the next few years while extending the contract on the books from 4 years to 8 years.

Gotta remember too that the lighting are still paying Vinny lecavelier after his buyout, they still went on to win championships afterwards. The Rangers bought out Brad Richardson and are still paying it, yet still became a contending team. So not all is lost for the canucks after this buyout. They still have a chance to become a contender if things are managed right from here on out.
Lecavalier contract buy out was never a cap hit. After lock out teams where allowed to buy out one play with no cap hit. Tampa tried trading him to Toronto to let them buy him out so they could resign him. At that time nhl wouldn’t let tampa resign him.
Good morning 🙏 6 Am Toronto. The buyouts work on opening cap space. They owed 30 million and saved 10 . I could be wrong or heard it wrong , but this works.

30 million for free eh… now he might bounce back and be a valuable player for for a team at 1 Mill.
we need 5 players. 2 top 4 d men, a play driving 3c and 2 tougher, harder to play against wingers for top 2 lines. maybe we can pick up barbeshev as 3c or top 6 winger. draft one of willander, simashev, barlow, wood or danielson. find another joshua. find the others a year after that.

would you trade miller to columbus for roslovic, peeke and a 2nd or makarov?
my idea is to sign barbashev as 2c and have roslovic at 3c and play peeke with hughes.
we get out of the 8 mil x7 contract and save this year of 1.5 mil.
then if we did the chicago picks trade with boeser going back, we have a lot of cap space.
next year we lose myers and beauvillier contracts. we'ld be in good shape with our cap.
I think this is the right move. It was the only move actually. And here’s the thing barely anybody is saying. With OEL’s buyout, and the LTIR players Poolman and Pearson we will have close to $12,000,000 in cap space. If we trade Garland, Boesser, Or Beauvillier we could have let’s say $3,000,000 to $6,000,000 more. And then once Tyler Myers bonus is paid out mid summer he becomes very tradable. We could have $20,000,000 cap space available to do things with in free agency, mid summer and the beginning of the season. So it’s much better than many people are saying. We do need to still trade at least one winger in my opinion. We need centre’s and defensemen.
I don't want Garland to go, he's one of our best 5 on 5 players.
