The Career (Thus Far) of Mika Zibanejad

This year he really hit his stride as a scorer in the NHL. Is it a career year or will be fall back a bit next season?

  1. Mika's one of those guys I love, but ill hate as soon as they start beating the caps in the playoffs

  2. I’m so impressed by his development. He’s definitely put in a lot of work and it shows. Talent means extremely little if you don’t combine it with some effort. Talent and high work rate is a lethal combo and boy, is he talented and the hard work is paying off.

  3. Had to search for an interview where he speaks Finnish. He's constantly being referred as "the-son-of-a-Finnish-Ritva" in the headlines here, but I still didn't know he speaks Finnish. And after watching the interview, he really does speak it, quite well I might add.
Anyways. Great player, great video, thanks.

  4. He really should get the Rocket but I understand why he wouldn’t. It would obviously make sense if he did

  5. As long as he has Panarin and healthy he should be avg 35/35 for the next 7 years easy

  6. Such a shame the league came to an end when it did this year. Properly coming in to his own and exiting to watch!!

  7. Best persian playing for Sweden, able to say 'kippis' and ask for a pass in a english speaking league. Respect for that!

  8. can you please do the Career of Chris Kreider??? he is a good playoff player and did very well when he came into the league as a rookie.. thanks love your videos.

  9. He should get Selke votes this year. I wouldnt necessarily put him as a finalist, but he should get votes.

  10. A few things to consider from an Ottawa perspective. 1. Everyone in Ottawa felt Mika was the best pure talent in the deal, but Brassard might give them the edge in terms of winning that season. And they did make the ECF and come a goal awat from the finals so there's that. 2. Pierre Dorion knows his owners a cheap guy, and if Mika did reach his potential by the time his contract came around, the Sens likely couldn't afford him…

  11. Look this remains one of the best Rangers trades in recent times and the best trade for NY by Jeff Gorton by a damn country mile. And he's had his mistakes and so so maneuvers contrary to this popular belief that he's some sort of Uber GM Genius Prototype. He's had his luck. He's had a bunch of solid moves. But nothing comes close to this one and it was obvious at the time.

One thing needs to be said though…Brassard was a player who got better and better as a Ranger compared to his career prior… And the thing that made him stand out to anyone and clearly the gm in Ottawa, was that he was superb in the playoffs… On the big stage. In big moments. He had big goals and he made it clear that he had an ability to be a very very good player. He just didn't play that way ALL the time. I just don't think he gets any love and this was a good trade for the Rangers no doubt. Again as soon as it was announced it was a win for anyone who knew better. But it's not like some other trades that have been made that are simply embarrassing steals for one gm and a catastrophe for the other. It was a veteran solid number 2 line type center being sent for a guy with a higher…. Much higher ceiling.

The trade never should have been made by Ottawa and I constantly wonder how the same gm who made this move, also decided to toss JT Miller into that deal with TB because his "attitude" wasn't ideal at times and he was due his pay raise. You get Mika Zibanejad… So you've been on that side of a deal before. And then somehow make the same choice in the opposite direction when you get rid of a guy you drafted and raised and watched succeed at every step including normal growth in the NHL and then toss him away at 24 years old…. It's atrocious. Sorry for the rant but getting Zibanejad was as much a great move as Miller was a confusing asinine move.

And as far as Mika… It was literally a matter of him staying healthy for consistent periods of time and playing with like minded players like Kreider, and the minutes on the ice, and it was clear that he was capable of many things. This year his scoring took a leap north that has pushed him into very legit top line center territory. Right in time. Stay healthy.

  12. It’s come to a point, I wouldn’t be surprised if they traded a Chabot, Batherson, White, ect… it’s just what Ottawa does. The training hub of the NHL.

  13. picked him up on the cheap 4 seasons ago in my keeper league, never looked back, one of the most underrated centers and a beast when healthy

  14. I think at the time of the trade Mika's work ethic was in question. Apparently he didn't take his offseason training/diet seriously until he was a Ranger. I've heard that this is the reason Ottawa was willing to make that trade

  15. I Will never forget the game winning goal for Sweden in the junior world champ. What a memory for us swedes ❤️

  16. Hes still underated, everyone talks about him like the only thing he's ever done was the one 5 goal game or that all his points stem from Panarin even though they don't even play on the same line. I called his breakout the past 2 years and I dont see him slowing down. He will be known as a top 5-10 center in the nhl in 3 years or so

  17. 17-18 was a key year for Mika….that's also the year the Rangers decided to blow it up and it was really after all the vets were traded that he really started to come into his own for us and become a team leader. 18-19 he was great but 19-20 he was awesome. Missing 13 games with injury and the final 12 were called off he still got 41 goals and 75 points. IMO he could easily have been a 50+ goal guy and put up 100 points. It's pretty much his and Panarin's team right now and if or when the Rangers name a captain he would be the guy I'd expect to get it.

  18. According to Finnish media during 2018 world champs, Mika's quite reluctant to speak Finnish. They made a funny insert about him by chacing him a bit after games (where media has access) and tried to get an interview calling him out in Finnish. Took them a while, but finally he cave in and his Finnish turned out to be quite ok.

  19. From what I understand, the Rangers paid out Brassard's bonuses for that time period, where as if they had done the trade sooner in the off season, the bonuses would have fallen on Ottawa to pay out. So Rangers pay bonuses, and the teams swap draft picks.
