I hate to post ‘Big if true’ post at peak hand waving season, but Frank Seravalli has word that Mikael Backlund is leaning away from re-signing in Calgary. He only has one year left on his contract so would be an ideal candidate for salary retention. At 50% retained, he’d cost ~2.6M, so thoughts?
Finally, on #Flames: Bit of a surprise. Told Mikael Backlund is also leaning toward not re-signing in Calgary.
That could change, and Flames hope it does. He's been a staple for 15 years.
Nonetheless, Craig Conroy has decisions to make.

Personally, I think picking Backlund up would be a great idea so long as it can be done on the cheap. We can’t over spend on a guy like Backlund if we want to fully address our other needs: namely, a big time scorer.
Why would Calgary retain? I would think they’re going to swing again for the playoffs and would need to get immediate production out of every cap dollar available to them.
Who tf DOES want to play in Calgary?
