As a LA Kings fan, I really dig Kyle Clifford, aside from being brutally difficult to play against, he knows how to win and how to handle himself. I really miss the dude but glad he's got another shot with the Leafs.
I remember HNIC showed a stat about Phaneuf comparing his numbers in games where he played over 30min vs games under 28min. He was a massive minus with next to no points in games over 30min. Had all star numbers and most of his points in games under 28min. He was a powerplay/O-zone faceoff powerhouse that got over played in the wrong roll.
It was totally on Kessel.
When the Leafs were shaking hands after the game, Kessel said something to Dion and pointed towards the gate and Dion gave a second look after Kessel skated off as if to say, you're saying we should do what?
I am a huge Leaf fan but during the hole salute gate situation up until that moment Leafs fans were brutal in the way they treated the team and there behavior during games was ridiculous. Yes, the team wasn't very good but that had more to do with the management team then the players on the ice. You can only kick a dog so many times before it will bite you and salute gate was the Leafs bitting the fans back. I couldn't hold it against them. Perfect example, look at the Arizona Coyotes this year is that the fault of the team on the ice or the ownership and management team.
Dubas is actually thinking ahead on this. He refuses to roster a heavy tough team so he’s decided to get all the heavy fighters and put them in the AHL so the leafs don’t have to play against them.
Phaneuf was legitimately one of the worst captains in Leafs history.
