  1. You asked what more do you want from Sokolov and JBD? Well…I don't think either has kicked the door down when playing games in the NHL. Sure, they don't look out of place but they also haven't proven to be true NHLers. Being a PPG guy in the AHL is simply not enough.

I do agree they've been blocked by useless players like the ones you mentioned but if you look at guys that truly kicked the door down when given the opportunity and then earned those one way contracts, it was very clear to everyone they were NHLers. For example, Parker Kelly or Mark Kastelic both showed they bring a certain something that makes them valuable to the bottom six. I love both JBD and Sokolov but I really don't think either has proven anything yet. JBD is very close though, along with a guy like Greig.

I find it a little out there to say they should be in the opening lineup right now. These guys are the definition of needing to win spots in camp and prove they've taken that next step. JBD has been making slow progress but Sokolov has only proven to lack NHL pace every time he's in the NHL.

A GM who expects to be a playoff contender simply can't plan to have unproven guys in the lineup on opening night. I fully expect us to pick up proven guys as insurance pieces. Looks like we wont be signing DeBrincat so I expect us to use that money by bringing in a couple guys like C.Brown or a guy like Lucic as those insurance proven NHL players.

  2. Keep on looking to the future.I have a system that has been used before that I think would work with Ottawa.
A regular top 6 but with a couple additions, playoff performers.A bottom six that consists of 6 big players,2 checking lines with players that can score.
Here is a scenario after a trade.
    Brady,Tim,Drake no.2 Neighbors,Bradden Schenn and Claude Giriox.Two checking lines Ritchy,Calgary,Ruzzika,and Dube.4th Sokoluv,Kastellic,Watson.

  3. I think we need to get Karlsson (@50% retained) and Keller. Use Debrincat, Sokolov, Brannstrom, Zub and picks.

  4. I think it’d be cool if you guys did a little offer sheet speculation. Who are potential targets on the Sens and around the league…?

  5. This all depends on who PD brings in during free agency. I agree it's Sokos spot to lose. On d I'm not as certain. I think JBD is ready to make the step into the NHL but the blue line is pretty crowded. I think Hammy comes back to between him, Branny and JBD they will rotate the bottom pairing to start the season
