  1. I always found Doan super overrated. Someone on all those weak teams had to lead the team in points, he never wanted to join an NHL team with more talent as he would have been a 2nd or even 3rd liner.. cloned along the same line as Bo Horvat. If you have a competitive fire you want to win which was never the goal in Arizona/Phoenix. If it was honorable ownership and a franchise with class and history maybe.. but not the 'Yotes

  2. To my knowledge they were using RCAs (Retirement Compensation Arrangments), and likely splitting the savings between an RRSP (Registered Retirement Savings Plan) which has a ceiling, as you had discussed and IPP (Individual Pension Plans) which do not have the same ceilings as RRSPS. From that point, after they retire from professional sports, they can determine the amount to take out each year in order to stay under certain tax thresholds.

  3. Conroy's probably talked to all of the players by now and Huska was probably what made most sense for them. I'm guessing it hasn't been announced officially because they're working out all of the assistant/associate coach hire contracts now.

  4. Glad to have Provorov and Severson. I've noticed that all hockey fans are of the belief that the trades other teams make are always terrible. I figure the Jackets are far from finished, although I don't think they'll trade that third overall pick. Maybe next years first rounder as they hope it won't be a lottery pick.

  5. I always hate the tax talk amongst these millionaires. Living in a society where we take care of people with social safety nets requires taxes to be paid by its citizens. The fact that these players can work with their lawyers to pay as little as possible is disgusting in my opinion. Most NHL players will still be millionaires after paying their fair share of taxes, is that really so bad? And that fact that I pay more taxes than most of them who hide their money and dodge any taxes as much as possible can find a better society that allows for people good at a sport to be paid obscene amounts. I like watching hockey, but it is completely unimportant in the big scheme of things. Cheers

  6. The severson trade is a win-win-win situation for all the parties directly involved. The only losers here are devils fans who have been attached to Sevo since he had a 2 goal game against the avs his rookie year

  7. Man Wtf is CBJ doing? These aren't even intelligent moves, you're asking to be fired. The curse of Mike Babcock

  8. Remember Ryan Huska as the head coach of my hometown Kelowna Rockets for a long while. They were always a strong team under him, hope things go well in Calgary.

  9. For the RRSP contributions, as I understand it, there are special rules for professional athletes that recognizes that they have a much shorter career. RRSP contribution limit is based on a maximum eligible salary, but most people will work into their 60s, vs. athletes into their 30s.

RRSP only based on employment income, not other investment income, so, the special rules are there to reflect the imbalance of earning your lifetime career earnings in a shorter period of time. This case will be very interesting for sure as it may put athletes in Canada at a further disadvantage compared to their US counterparts.

  10. Wouldn't you think that Doan joining The Leaves is less about anything regarding Toronto, and probably more about the dysfunction of The 'Yotes finally getting the better of him? Despite his loyalty to The WHA Winnipeg Jets franchise, he's still only human after all … (Isn't he?)

  11. I already don’t like Debrincat and I hope he doesn’t get traded to my favourite team. He hasn’t even done anything yet and he’s got a laundry list of expectations

  12. Hawks will trade Seth Jones for DeBrincat. 9 mill better spent. God that contract is an albatross. I think the hawks were trolling the league setting the market like that.

  13. Good news for CBJ fans y'all getting a defense that put the puck in the net am I right NJD fans?🤭

  14. wonder what the sign is for zac w. is then….. is he done? traded? he needs to be gone

  15. Damnit I really liked Severson 🙁 50 million 8 years is EXPENSIVE and getting a 3rd rounder in a deep draft isn't nothing at least. Like 30~35 million 6 years would have been the best the Devils could have done, especially since the younguns are coming up

  16. I feel like jarmo has lost his way of the past 2 years or so. He’s a good Gm but I feel like he’s been on the hot seat so he’s trying to win now instead of doing what’s best for the team

  17. When are u guys gonna learn that GMs does not give a solid fuck about what will happen 5 years from now – they let the next gm clean up.

  18. as a fan of a diff team in the Metro
At least Devils losing a DMan
& that contract wont age well once Sev 30+

  19. With the Doan news, what’s the odds that he knows inside information about the coyotes actually leaving Arizona? I don’t see him leaving that franchise unless he knows something that hasn’t been announced yet.

  20. How do Canadian taxes work? Do they actually tell you how much you owe? Because here in the US, you have to figure it out for yourself, and if you're wrong you're in a world of hurt.

  21. I’d like for the Wings to take a stab at DeBrincat but if you’d have told me we could’ve had Provorov or Severson for the cost they spent in Columbus I’d have signed up immediately for that too, but ya know… idk. Gotta figure Yzerman has some things in mind for this season to try and take a step forward but idk maybe gunshy after last year turned into a bit of a debacle after the Vrana drama and some of the other guys taking a step back like Copp but we’ll see.

  22. Without knowing the details on the CRA lawsuit, it comes across as wealthy athletes pushing the envelope on tax law. I don't have any sympathy for your warning about the outcome of this lawsuit having a negative impact on nhl players or teams.

  23. I feel like that was the best contract he would get..why wouldnt CBJ just wait a couple weeks?..As a devs fan im happy they traded him to at least get something

  24. …is that Calgary pick NJ got from Columbus for Johnny Gaudreau? Devils fans… 😂😂😂😂😂

  25. Sevo at 4 is tolerable, Sevo at 6.25 for 8 years is bonkers. Jarno lost his fucking mind ; Sevo played his most consistent hockey playing third pair minutes behing Hamilton-Siegy and Graves-Marino and Jarno is pushing him right back into a heavy duty role which he struggles in.

Fitzy babym, you're a goddamn playa

  26. Well, this makes it slightly harder to hate Columbus now. You will be missed Damon, people undervalued what you did for the devils organization. This wont change a thing for Gaudreau tho. Boo his ass until he retires.
