The New York Islanders Reached Down Deep to Beat the Pittsburgh Penguins



The New York Islanders didn’t have Mathew Barzal but they played with a lot of heart and beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 in Pittsburgh. Ilya Sorokin was outstanding and the Isles scratched and clawed their way to a big win.

    HI Gil. Just when you think isles should just forget about playoffs pens show up. Pens SUCK and look like they are a serious contender to miss playoffs. And anytime pens lose its a good day.

    Lambert needs to reinstitute the Trotz system at least until we get some of our injured players back. I feel like the only way we’re going to win is to play lock down defense and have great goaltending. There’s just not enough skill on the ice with Barzal, Pageau, Bailey, Wahlstrom and Clutterbuck out.

    just cannot forget how TAVARES (Islanders Captain & first rounder first overall pick) WALKS OUT on the Islanders and preventing them from getting anything (ZERO) in return. remember Islanders compensated Vancouver for Horvat: 1- immediate young player (Top Six) 2- 1st round pick 2023-2024 3- promising prospect.

    Sorokin ! Good god. Even without one of the best saves I’ve seen all season, he played an unbelievable game tonight ! Super bummed about Barzel! I’m hearing rumblings he might be out for at LEAST 2 months! 💔 LGI’s

    Now off to winny and minny. Isles don't fare too well vs. mild. Isles now in seventh. Word is barzal could be out up to eight weeks or most of remaining season. That could give lou some ltir cap space to utilize or weaponize to get rid of a contract (jpg?).
    -Of note. Isles had scouts at recent sens/b's game. Debrincat?
    -There is trade interest in jpg. Canes could be in play.
    -vgk put stone on ltir and are looking for goalie help. Varly? A varly move leaves isles thin in net and no A prospect goalie in system. Prospect goalie lennox just named ohl goalie of the week for second time this season. When lennox is on he's pretty good.
    -Oil/flames both looking for d help. Word is mayfield for a second is offer.
    I'd move all three in a proper deal if it gets isles younger and picks.

    Isles should sell and tank. Even if they get in, they aren't going anywhere in these playoffs. My biggest concern now is how long and painful even a retooling will be.

    I was on the edge of my seat all game! Sorokin played his ass off, the poor guy was constantly under fire. Great win though, let’s go Islanders!!!!

    good win, no doubt, love seeing pittsburgh lose. brock is a rock, durandeau looked good in first nhl game. if we make the playoffs and play boston first round it is going to be a challenge. sorokin will have to play at least as good LGI!!!

    Hi Gil-awesome show! Maybe Ross listened to my whispers and got mean. He does not do it against the the tough teams got the most part and I’m his biggest supporter. Sorro? Geez the guy is absolutely ELITE! Let’s be honest boys—if not for Sorro we would been blown out of the water and we can’t expect him to be this razor sharp and have something to offer if we make it. Whatever happened to our defense? Wow these guys look like a high school team out there—-shocking the decline of the D with this so called coach. Lane is plating checkers with a few missing pieces—he simply sucks as a coach. Boys I cheered like crazy for those last 2 goals—it was gutty and fearless—-they played their hearts out after the 1st——but boys sell and try and make it—-weee not going anywhere like this—-
