Deputy commissioner of the NHL was asked about the Valeri Nichushkin situation and he responded: “There’s no ongoing investigation into the Nichushkin incident. We know exactly what happened. It was handled appropriately, both at the club level and, I think, at the league level, and he’s eligible to play in the league.”
That will satisfy some, but for others it won’t. But should we expect Nuke to be back in full at the start of next season? While we don’t have a definite answer to that, by Daly saying there is no ongoing investigation into the matter, we know Val isn’t facing any legal involvement, so it will come down to a decision by him and the Colorado Avalanche. We wait and see.
We also give Denis Malgin his season grade and talk about what it means now that we know the cap will only go up by $1 million next season.

Chris – You're looking very chic tonight. That's a nice pullover!
The bottom line on the Val situation is that we just DO NOT KNOW what happened. Given the statement from Bettman and Daly I'm inclined to think that the issue with the woman in his room was a coincidence and something else in his personal life was going down at the time. As far as atoning to the team, I am sure that the team was informed of the details at the time and told that Val was requesting privacy in the situation so they are respecting his wishes. Could I be a bit Pollyanna about this, sure. But until there is news from him or the team that something is wrong then I will assume that it was a legit and serious personal issue that pulled him away from the team and that the team was supportive of that situation.
I hope they can sign Malgin to the same deal LOC is on – 3 years $1mil per.
What happened
👋 Grateful to hear good news about Val. Totally appreciate you guy's providing knowledge about our team year round.
Can we really trust him not to disappear again?
How come all through this interminable debacle no one has ever asked about his commitment to the avs and to hockey ? To slip up during the Stanley cup is just way off focus
A- for Malgin. Expectations were low and he turned out to be one of the few acquisitions that was actually worthwhile.
I don't really get the salary cap in the NHL. Is it unnecessarily punitive? Are GM's incapable of handling it properly?
We DoNt KnOw WhAt HaPpEnEd… yall shut up, he had a drunk almost dead Russian hooker in his room we know what the flip happened. He's a distraction and a lockerroom cancer
If you are hours away from game 3 and you have nothing better to do than have an intoxicated woman in your room, you have a problem with your attitude to your job and your teammates. Unprofessional! You cannot rely on him, fire him! Better a C+ player you can count on, as a B+ player who might party before a playoff game or get drunk. How can a coach plan with a guy like that? Forget him, bad character ruins people.
This whole Val situation is truly bizarre, from being sent back to Denver hours before game 3 to the woman who was in his room calling him an “evil man” while she was talking to an EMT in the ambulance, just a really confusing story from all parties. Hope Val and more importantly that woman are okay but as you mentioned he has to make it right with the team because he’s probably the 5th best player on the team if there’s no landy and we really need him back on the ice
LOL dude had a woman, drunk and drugged, that was NOT his fiancé and he is whisked away from the series. Colorado staff trying to get the woman in question out the door of the HOTEL so as cops would see nothing suspicious and hear nothing incriminating. There is FIRE here and this is a joke that the fan base just shrugs it off and is only worried about when he is playing again. Great Look Colorado Fans!!! LMFAO
Bad choices by the 5th highest paid player on the team. Bottom line is that he let the fans down and the absence of a major player on an already crippled Avs team likely contributed to losing that series to Seattle. It is gonna leave a bitter taste when or if 13 hits the ice in an Avs sweater next year.
Even if Nichuskin didn't drug the woman, you have to at least question his professionalism and commitment to the Avalanche organization. He gets paid a ton of money, and to not have him play in the playoffs (non-injury related) is disappointing.
Who do y'all think the Avs are going after for 2C?
I cannot believe some fans are willing to forgive Nichushkin. This bum let his team down at the worst moment. I'm wondering how MacKinnon feels about this guy now? he is supposed to be a Professional and he makes millions of dollars to play hockey and perform at high level. Drink, get high and bang whores in summertime, not when the fans, teammates, coaches and managing staff are counting on you. I would trade him.
