The Canucks have re-signed forward Tanner Pearson to a 3 year contract extension worth $9.75M (AAV of $3.25M/season).
The team will need to get very creative to clear enough space to sign Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, and a few other players.

What are your thoughts on the signing?
Not thrilled about it. But not super mad either. See what happens…he can probably have a bounce back season and retain some old form
Why????
they have so many contracts need to sign, not possible if they don't trade some players
Feels like no matter what had Pearson resigned or did get traded, Canuck fans would be upset no matter what. When Pearson first came here there were no complaints considering we only gave up Gubranson. I'd see how he does in a couple of years to fully judge the contract
Terrible move any way you slice it
Don’t hate the contract. Just hate that we should’ve been prioritize Pettersson and Hughes
Good.
They need a new GM fast before Benning ruins this team for the next GM coming in.
Not a terrible contract but, I wish they would have thought about the future and spent that money elsewhere
When I read Canucks had the most no trade type contracts in the league I knew Benning a terrible GM , Pearson a 3rd liner who now basically untradeable cause of contract . So over next 2 seasons you mean no other free agent 3rd liners going to be available who are upgrades ? I still laugh when Tortorella said team was stale and fans gasped . Still is .
Fire Benning
I don't like it Clay. Especially with a no trade as well. I hope we don't have to protect him in the expansion draft because of the no trade. Bennings biggest weakness is contract negotiation. Maybe it is time for him to go. 2 years at 2.4 would have been more palatable/reasonable. I would have rather had a late pick than this.
Not crazy about re-signing Pearson. I like him, and during a typical season, this might be a half-decent signing, but during a flat cap, Benning needs to think of cheaper options and allocating some space towards signing Pettersson and Hughes. Some contracts coming off the books after this season like Edler, Benn, but still on the hook for a few bad contracts like Eriksson, Myers, and Luongo`s recapture. Thanks Clay!
I don't love it, I don't hate it. As long as his contract doesn't go the way of Roussel/ Sutter we can be okay. That might be JBs one other big contract besides 40 and 43 tho
Also, what's the reasoning for signing bonus? So it's just to defer monies for later?
Hi Clay. If Brandon Sutter doesn't return then an A on Tanner Pearsons' sweater next season makes sense. Also considering Alex Edler possibly departing…
awful awful move. should have traded him for picks then circled back in the summer.. good luck to reupping petey and hughes in the summer.
Seattle will probably take him, canucks dont have cap to keep him
Thanks for the video! I enjoyed watching your cousin play in Japan and for Japan many times! About Pearson, I was hoping he would be traded for a pick. I don`t hate this deal, but I think we need more good young players and this was a chance to get a good draft pick. So it is a bit disappointing. I find we let some of the players I like go – Toffoli for example. And we sign some of the players who are OK. But not game breakers. I think Benning is over his depth. He really should be the head of drafting for a team. You often see people promoted until they become incompetent then they get demoted or fired. I would like to see Benning demoted to the head of the drafting department and see the Canucks bring in a different GM. One who does not "run out of time," or who says one thing to the media, but a different thing to the player, or worse, claims he has contacted the player, when he really hasn`t.
We are all Canucks 🏒🥅🚨🇨🇦💯
VIEW NUMBER 1000 let’s goo
The one thing I do like about this deal is that Benning is clearly not being influenced by reporters or fans on how he wants to build this team. I like Pearson, he brings a lot of intangibles to the table. I think the Canucks could have taken a risk and tried to sign him as free agent for less but we saw how that worked last year. I think in terms of team development Pearson is an important piece. We don't know what is going on behind the scenes, and for all the smart guys out there telling us what the Canucks are going to do, more often than not, what they do comes as a surprise so I have little faith in the insider information telling me what is going on. Time will tell if this is a good deal, at the least it isn't a real stinker. In this strange year I can live with that.
i think it is a good deal if JIM is planning to make 3 equal scoring lines next season with pods and maybe lind joining the line up. we have 3 good centermen in PETEY, BO and JT like to see the line going best each game as being the first line. i can see an advantage in the signing.
I'm okay with this as long as they trade him – "Hey, there's always next year!"
I like Pearson, but I feel like this is yet another signing where Benning has over paid. Pearson just had a lousy season and as a player approaches 30 it can be hard to know what we are going to get moving forward. The Canucks also have the most NMC and modified NMC out of any team in the league. That used to be reserved for elite players to offer security and not so much for a middle 6 forward with 11 points in 33 games.
Thats a good deal for Tanner happy to have him top line player. Nice to see the bottom six filling up with 1 million dollar players. Jim has done an awesome job of developing players. Will be seemless as we see some of the overpayed bottom 6 players going. A lot of cry babies forgetting the Luongo cap recapture was a former gm.
