Rangers’ Offensive Core is One of the Oldest in the NHL

Some interesting stats from this article:

\- NYR had the 2nd oldest top-6 in the playoffs and 5th oldest offensive core in the whole league

\- the Rangers have no players in their prime (23-28 yrs old) in their core

Seems like the Rangers’ aging core is a direct consequence of the organization’s failure to develop draft picks. Because they can’t develop draft picks they have to rely on trades and free-agent signings to acquire talent. It’s extremely difficult to get elite young players through those means cause no teams want to give them up. And so the Rangers have to settle with older players past their prime.

Elite youth and homegrown talent win Stanley Cups. The Rangers need to figure out how to develop young talent if they want a cup.

Wait so you’re telling me it’s not a rebuild if you draft all the forwards and then play none of them?

“Elite youth and homegrown talent win Stanley Cups”

You might want to look at the playoff scoring leaders for Florida and Vegas. Tell me how many in the top-10 are “Homegrown’ and under 25 years of age?

Didn’t help we chased an aging Patrick Kane instead of letting one of our top picks in Kakko or Laf play in the top 6.

  4. This is a bit misleading as Tara and Kane are basically rentals.
