  1. I get the business side of this trade, but damn, this was cold and I feel didn't treat a player that is this respected very well. Blake needs to work on his "people skills"

  2. I will speculate that perhaps there is a condition on Quick that is not being discussed publicly.
Sure he's 37 and on last year of contract, but the trade is okay without him being on it.
I wonder if Quick has something wrong that L.A management is keeping hush on. Kind of like the Derek Boogaard situation.

  3. This is so heartwrenching. Quickie is one of the greatest Kings of all time. I wish they'd found a way to put him on LTIR. That said, Korpisalo and Gavrikov are massively needed on the Kings.

  4. Lmao "controversial"? Whatever, he hasn't been good in almost a decade. The guy isn't even an NHL goaltender anymore. The locker room can suck ti+s.

  5. I'm not sure what the controversy is. The problem here was that LA signed Calvin Petersen as their goalie of the future before he had proven capable of being that. LA ended up with 10.8 million for Petersen and Quick who had a terrible year together. That cap hit made it impossible for them to add another goalie other than the 30 year old career AHLer Pheonix Copley who played better than both of these goalies.
LA with an average goalie is a lock to make the playoffs and could easily advance for a couple rounds. WIth the goaltending they had they were giving up more goals than they scored.

  6. I understand he meant a lot to the organization and fans, but he played himself off of the team. It's a good trade, but what they should've done was another 3-team trade sending Quick with 75% of his cap retained back to LA to remain as the backup and Korpi as the starter. That way it keeps everyone happy, and gives them major cap relief.

  7. They should have kept Quick who can still be a game changer in the playoffs with his talent and experience. He deserved a final chance at a cup run. Also I'm absolutely not sure that Korpisalo is an upgrade for this year's playoffs.

  8. Korpi wasn't one of the worst goalies in the league. Can't really hit 91%+ with essentially no defense.

  9. As a dude from Toronto, who is a hawks fan, I will always 'hate'//respect Quick so much. I remember driving 9 hours from outside t.o to Chicago in 2014 to attend game 7 of the western conference finals. It was the greatest sporting event I had ever witnessed, and even though the score was kind of high, the goalie performances were top notch.

With Chicago pressing hard in the third, Quick really kept them in the game, sending it to o.t – where LA would prevail, and I would weep like a child in my united centre seat. I sat there for 40 minutes or so after the game, just wondering what could have been. Quick, and the Kings had stolen from us, and rightfully went on to win lord Stanley.

Anecdote aside, I see a lot of people discussing this trade (all the hockey yt'ers) and it's (I think) being myopically called disrespectful – which in fairness, it could be. BUT it just happened, we don't know much about it…

What if, the Kings had NO interest in trading quick, they weren't even thinking about it, then the jackets ring up, and make this offer, and it's like oh 'we didn't really think of this route, but this is the deal we need, we have to do it' type scenario? Maybe this is wishful thinking, that a franchise like this would treat one of it's all time greats with more love and respect, but perhaps something close to this could be true, and there's a lot of office space jumping to conclusions going on? I guess time will tell.

  10. its been almost a decade and the rest of the core has gone. hes one of the last ones, its irrelevant right now

  11. Why, would you say, so few teams trade their 2nd round picks ? It seems it's all 1st and 3rd, 4th or 5th these days… The Lars Eller one almost look like an odd one out.

  12. I do recall that the NJD were rumored about a potential Lars Eller until the Avs who unexpectedly traded from him

  13. Patrick Kane too was a legend for his team, he won 3 Stanley cups for the Hawks and he still go traded.

  14. Kings definitely could've handled it better – But sometimes these things happen fast. For all we know the deal materialized yesterday evening (maybe even during the game) and Blake felt he had to pull the trigger. Sucks it had to end this way, but this deal seriously helps the Kings. Quick's level of play had been below that of even a serviceable NHL backup for months and lets be honest if he was any other player, with any other cap hit, he would've been benched/sent down long ago. Also, this deal not only improves the Kings goaltending and defense, but it also gives them more cap room – about $5.2 million. You don't make a deal like this and then sit on that kind of cap space. They could legitimately still be IN on Chychrun

  15. It was a good hockey move to bring in Korpisalo, but LA should really try to work out another deal with Columbus to reacquire Jonathan Quick before the deadline — he deserves to be with the Kings for this final run of his career.
Also, congrats on the Larkin deal. 💸

  16. Leave it to the kings to be controversial. I mean, wtf guys. I know Quick has fallen off, but it really feels like you done him dirty.

  17. I get that Quick was an unreal goalie back and the day and was a big part of the kings cups, but this is becoming a way bigger deal than it needs to be. Quick has been terrible this season and has an expensive cap hit. The Kings players need to get over it and understand the fact that even though they lose a respected leader in their dressing room, this is a trade that makes them way better (even if it was maybe a bit of an overpay). This trade is a perfect example of the saying “hockey is a business”.

  18. You gotta imagine this will affect the team's morale negatively though. it might not, but we'll see in their upcoming games if this is the case

  19. What if Columbus trades Quick to Seattle and he stands on his head in the playoffs. That would be so SAVAGE! 😆

  20. It's Blake's job to make the team better, so trading Quick was the right thing to do, even if it hurts a lot. He's been absolutely crap this year, easily the worst season of his entire career.

But at the same time, sending away the franchise goalie that carried you to 2 Lord Stanleys in 3 years to the worst team in the NHL is really cruel and quite sad, especially when the dude only has 3 months left until he walks away from the sport altogether.

Korpi should be a good upgrade in case Copley begins caving back into his journeyman form, and I guess Gavrikov could be useful. I heard from Jackets fans that he can be useful as a D-man if the Kings don't ask him to do more than that.

  21. Im a kings fan and I’m depressed. Yes we get better but still hurts seeing our franchise #1 for the past decade+ leave especially to Columbus

  22. they did my boy DIIIIIRRTYYY 😂

can you guys imagine having to go from living in LA to COLUMBUS?!?! 😂😂💀💀 from the best city, to the worst…

  23. As much as I love Quick, the Kings absolutely needed an upgrade at goalie to go deep in the playoffs. The fact that they got anything for him shows how great Blake is as a GM. The Kings are a top 5 team in Fenwick For Percentage and Shots For Percentage. They are top 10 in Corsi For Percentage. They are top 3 on the power play. This is a good puck-protection team that defends well and can score. We will miss Quickie, but he's been painful to watch this season. Quick was ranked 89th out of 93 goalies in save percentage and bottom 20 in GAA. He is out of position often and has been allowing in bad goals almost every game. The fact that he's been backing up Phoenix Copley should tell you all you need to know about his performance this season. He's an all-time Kings great and will have his jersey hanging in the rafters at Crypto someday, but the Kings have a legit chance to challenge for the Cup if Korpisalo can repeat his 2020 performance against the Leafs.

  24. As a kings fan I’m devastated that one we had to trade but trade him the way we did and completely disrespect him I’m glad we got our ld men and korpi but I wish we handled that whole situation better

  25. Quick is well into the twilight of his career. The league knows he can't stop high, hard shots. Blake made a good move. The team is improved and once emotions settle down in the locker room, the team will focus on winning. They are professional athletes.

  26. this hurts to see, but sadly it needed to happen. quick was never as good after he came back from missing almost an entire season due to a groin strain injury. and with peterson's contract, the kings were forced to move him instead. i just hope that Copley can do quick's legacy justice since he's basically the guy now.

  27. Nobody is interested in Quick. His numbers are terrible. Columbus took Quick as a charity. They wanted the draft picks. If Korpisalo becomes a wall in the playoffs and gets the Kings deep or even the Cup, everyone will be singing the praises of this trade.

  28. sorry but when ur old and costing alot and playing like shit u gonna be traded. maybe ur agent should have gotten no trade clause

  29. If the kings had any honor at all they would have accepted the possibility of a first-round exit simply to honor the man who did what Gretzky never could: Bring a Stanley cup to LA. This will hurt their reputation for years to come the same way Vancouver's coaching moves have for their organization. I can see LA showing up on a lot of no-trade lists after this.

  30. Oh nooo a millionaire who made millions playing a game he loves is unhappy.. I feel so bad for him after my 12 hour shift at a job I lothe..

  31. It's just business, nothing to get worked up. Even Gretzky was traded multiple times.

  32. Imagine thinking that trading your back-up goaltender who couldnt out perform a player that started in the AHL is controversial.

Way too many people tied to his performance from 10 years ago. Trades happen. Its what can happen to anyone, especially those without NMCs or NTCs. Perhaps he could have secured one himself if he took a lower caphit. This was always a possibility for him.

  33. Even as a Columbus fan how the kings did quick was wrong and I feel bad for him, but I think his experience will help Elvis

  34. Quick might have retired after this season and it’s pretty sad. He did get traded to Vegas so that’s good for him. I would be interested to see if they retire his number when he does retire.
