I honestly don’t know if I can invest myself in a team coached by someone like Hynes. If that’s the hire, I’ll still root for success but will stay cautiously distant from getting emotionally invested at all. Seems like a terrible hire all around
A guy who has never won a playoff series in 9 seasons as a head coach is who’s going to get us over the hump? See you guys in 2024 or 2025 when we’re looking for another new coach.

like preference for one or the other is fine but it’s not like Hynes is so much completely worse than Laviolette that picking him over Laviolette would make me any more upset than I already am by them being the two candidates. Hynes was basically the David Quinn for the Devils when he was there and then went to Nashville to try to resurrect the core that went to the cup finals (on the back of an 8th place playoff berth and an otherworldly run from Pekka Rinne; looking at you, Panthers) and watched as the team fell apart around him
they’re both part of the same group of coaches that 60+% of the league has every season.
if it’s coming down to those two, I just really do not care which one gets the gig.
EDIT: I want to clarify, I think both options suck. I want neither of them. My only point here is if it’s coming down between those 2 options, I think they probably suck approximately equally and I just can’t get like “well if Hynes is the alternative, please hire Laviolette!!!” they both stink and whichever stinky option we get doesn’t change the outcome too dramatically in my opinion
i would love to see the big board in the NYR offices (if they even have one). i legitimately have no idea if they are even aware that there are other coaches out in the world aside from the failed retreads of other organizations

Lav may as well be Jon cooper compared to Hynes. This coaching search is looking pretty bad
The fact that we have fans from other teams coming in here to say we dont want Lav or Hynes should be indicative of how fucking bad these guys are.
Both guys destroy offenses. Both hate young players. Both make no changes. Both have made their PPs worse.
No More Retreads, get fresh eyes with analytics and changing tactics. Why is there such a lack of decent hockey coaches in the league. Like why is noone looking overseas. Why are olympic/national coaches not considered? We failed by taking the wrong college coach but i am sure there are insanely talented coaches who want to take the leap.

I know someone said this could be the bomb candidate that makes us happy for Laviolette, but what if it’s more than that? What if the actual intention is to interview as many bombs as we possibly can? Present to Dolan all these blatantly *bad* choices and say “Look, this is the crop of established, tenured, * cough* *retread* * cough* coaches we have right now. Any of these is just a Gallant by another name, or worse. Do you *reeeaaaallllllllyy* want to go that route? Or do you want to try someone new? A better-than-Quinn new that has already been vetted by this franchise?”
If they hire him then it’ll prove to me that they’ll never win a cup unless there’s a massive change within the ownership of the organization. Hynes has only been to the post-season 4x, winning no more than 2 games. One of those post season losses was to fucking Arizona. His teams have never finished higher than 4th in their division. They’re considering a guy to coach a “win now” team that has never won anything himself, a only because he went to college with our GM.

I know that head coaches normally pick their own staff, but could the rangers no just hire knob to be head coach and then put a guy like Hynes or Lav or whoever they deem has the experience to be an assistant?
The team has two challenges right now. Seems there is a clear need to go in a new direction with a fresh approach and get more out of the young players. Shouldn’t need to sacrifice that for the sake of a win now old school coach that is too rigid and does nothing but yell.
Rangers can’t “win now” without getting contributions from the kids. So it’s not a one or the other situation. It’s a both or neither situation.
