[Account4hockey] Elliotte Friedman on SN590: Much more likely than not Keefe will be the Leafs coach as of right now. Shanahan told prospective GM’s that he was happy with Keefe and would like to keep him but ultimately GM’s call. Very few candidates, if any, objected.

Hoping Treliving talks to the players first and goes from there. I really think Keefe needs to get bounced

  2. harvardscool

Lmao. Wtf. YOU FIRED THE WRONG GUY SHANNY.

  3. poodleaficionado

Dubas and Spezza gone but Keefe stays? God it’s hard to be a Leaf fan sometimes.

  4. Firing Dubas, keeping Keefe, and hiring Treliving is the exact opposite of what I would have done. Hopefully I’m wrong, but I doubt it.

  5. 3X-Leveraged

I guess the players don’t mind Keefe?

  6. PapiMatthew

Looking more and more like Shanahan is the one that needs to go

  7. Gear4Vegito

Not bringing back Keefe was like my only true desire this offseason LOL.

Well at least we’ll know very quickly if the new GM is a Shanahan pawn or not.

I don’t see how you can watch that Florida series and be *happy* with Keefe.

Fucking amazing that we may only have fired the guy with the least to do with the actual on-ice performance of the roster.

I don’t understand how this guy has so much leash. He’s lost every coaching matchup in the playoffs every year. Bounced by Columbus, humiliated by Montreal, lost a close one to Tampa (still), barely won against Tampa this round, we had so many fortunate bounces.

Then he says he didn’t gameplan for Florida. This coach is not a serious person

Nah this is mound of salt tier garbage, that guy has to be sent to the gallows.

  11. whatlineisitanyway

So we are signing Holl to a $5mil X 8 contract this summer I guess.

  12. Excellent, I think the solution to an underachieving player group and uninspired coaching is to fire our GM who is getting immediately hired by a large sports conglomerate. Clearly it was all the middle six and defensive depth that he brought in that was the problem. Welcome back to the dark years boys!

  13. Solace2010

Lol fuck Shanahan. If you’re firing Dubas you better be getting rid of keefe

  14. backstreets_93

Lol even the most passionate Dubas defenders like myself wanted Keefe gone.

If this is true it looks like it’s business as usual.

  15. TheSSMinnowJohnson

Hell. Keefe was the only change I wanted this offseason. Made hasn’t outcoached anyone. Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander and Justin Holl over and over again. This team man.

  16. Tuxedogaston

When I heard the Dubas news, I was coping by saying “at least that likely means Keefe is done too”

  17. Intelligent_Chair901

LOL this sub is going to have a melt down today.

  18. ElephantShell34

Shanahan likes Keefe now but give him 24 hours and that could change. We’ve seen that before.

  19. MyNameWouldntFi

Jesus Christ what fucking universe do we live in where Dubas is off to Pittsburgh and Keefe is still the fucking coach…

  20. JohnYCanuckEsq

Wait… Toss Dubas and keep Keefe?

Shanahan completely missed the assignment instructions

  21. Rowdy_Roddy96

So I see two scenarios here either

    1. Keefe comes back and is properly able to criticize and hold his players accountable, which will imo make this team better because Keefe will hold them to a higher standard of play

    Or

    2. Keefe comes back but has lost the room, and the Leafs start off the year like the 2019/2020 Leafs, where they start off extremely poor, and then immediately after a coaching change, they play better and make a playoff push.

  22. moabthecrab

Ok, I’m done. Definitely the worst news I could’ve heard regarding this team. If Keefe is back and so is the core four, nothing is ever changing with this team. I’m not even remotely interested in what they might do in the playoffs.
