Rising Up – An Everesting World Record Film

In 2022 Ultra Cyclist Jack Thompson embarked on the impossible … To Everest once a week for an entire year (52 Everests on 52 different roads), climb a total of 1,000,000 metres of elevation and raise $1,000,000 for three charities.

Jack broke the Everesting World Record as part of his 1,000,000: A Space Odyssey Project, climbed all 1,000,000m and learned a hell of a lot about himself while raising $500,000 for charity.

‘Rising Up’ is a film of resilience, strength and overcoming adversity, it will inspire you to set your next crazy goal and then go about achieving it.

  1. Speaking of 1 million meters, there's this one guy on Strava whos already done over 1.2 million meters this year because his GPS is out of wack. I've flagged his account.

  2. your Strava posts last year have been a huge motivation to go out and ride… got goosebumps watching that last french everest. such an incredible feat absolutely mind blowing.

  3. Simply inspirational! Video release is timed right when I needed this in my life too. Thank you Jack. 👊

  4. Always so interesting to see the mental toll as well as the physical toll something this demanding takes on an athlete. Thank you for sharing your story.

  5. Hey Jack, not only what you achieved is amazing but more than that you as a person…you are very strong mentally and physically!! I think you wrote already History 💪🤟

  6. To do a million metres vertical ascent in 52 weeks is just over 2 everests a week not 1 as mentioned. I could never do what he has done but I thought that it was written wrong as I do an everest after every 6 long training rides ( I live in a hilly area) and Im 60 and overweight.

  7. Amazing vlog of this whole journey. Can I ask, how many brake pads/rotors did you go through from all of the descending? This was incredible to watch, congratulations.

  8. As someone that has had the black dog chase them for 40 years I just want to thank you for your efforts in bringing mental health discussions to the forefront. You are inspiring Jack and although i think even 1 Everest is beyond me, you have put a spark in the back of my mind to see just what I can achieve. Chapeaux mate.

  9. How ya gunna top that?!…don't know what's more amazing to me, the stats or the dedication it took to get them. Whatever's next I will be cheering you on 👍

  10. “If I can help one person, it’s basically all worth while” Jack my brother, consider it checked off the list ✅. I’ve been waiting for this film to come out, and it gave me chills. I’m even considering moving to Girona to start my family on the next chapter in our lives. Cheers.

  11. I say that was efing good. I am a lifelong cyclist who dabbled in ultra. There is so much glory in the Tour, that everything else is proportionally and inaccurately diminished. This, my friend, is (my opinion) one of the great cycling accomplishments, really, beyond my ability to conceive. I also appreciate your honesty and vulnerability. I think my mental state is similar to yours. I like to say there's "just" some very, very sensitive neural paths our minds have to navigate.

  12. epic man.. my brother marco (bravisimo) told me about your adventure and I already thought it was really bizarre, but to see you like this now.. man man man what a boss you are! real out of this world … respect for what you do and have done man! and I look forward to your next adventure. greetings in girona and again what a boss!
Good luck with unbound enjoy the ride 💪🏻

  13. As I reflect on Rising Up – An Everesting World Record Film, I am reminded of a quote by Helen Keller: "The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision." You have not only helped me see the light but have also ignited a vision within me, a vision of a future filled with hope, purpose, and endless possibilities.

    Thx, Jack Ultra Cyclist

  19. The achievement of a lifetime. Awesome job. What a body and mind you must have. Huge congratulations on all you have overcome.

  20. after an avarage 4000 km/y in 2020 I've decided to spend some more time on my gravel bike and double the distance. august came and the 8k was done. I felt great but wrecked at the same time. Than I looked back and realized it was my best year since childhood.. so I took the effort and continued riding untill december. I remember that the second part was emitionaly intense. Did not managed to double the already doubled distance but the final stats were way over I tought I could manage a year.. 13.5k with almost 130000m of elevation. we could talk a lot about inspiration, but first time in my life I felt inspired by myself. Jack is responsible for that
